On the news last night, there were 2 teenager girls who had been spanked at school and whose moms went to the school board meeting to complain about it. One mom was interviewed afterward and said that she had previously given permission for her daughter to receive corporal punishment but that she was now withdrawing it.
I still find the whole thing weird.
why would you ever give permission for someone to strike your child??
Because they want to hand the responsibility off to someone else
this girl was spanked cause she allowed a classmate copy her homework. wtf?! how does that even warrant any corporal punishment of any kind?
hear my name
take a good look
this could be the day
hold my hand
lie beside me
i just need to say

That's what I mean. It's just bizarre.
Maybe the parent thought corporal punishment would be slapping the kid's hand with a ruler. In any case, it doesn't fit with the misbehavior and just seems wrong in so many ways.

The article stated that the mother - and student too, I think - had the option of that (and chose it) vs another day of being suspended, so while I don't think it was warranted (actually, beyond not warranted, in the form of punishment), it was chosen by them.
