Fixed, but I've never seen a 54MPH zone before.

That's the point he wasn't speeding the cop made up a reason even though he was going at he speed limit

54 in 55 is part of the lyrics, getting pulled over for going 54 in a 55. Hence profiling :fp: :P

  • Jay Z's is a lot smarter than you're giving him credit for. He knows that you'll automatically think that he's referring to a woman when he says, "bitch", but he's actually referring to a bitch - as in, a female dog. "We'll see how smart you are when the canines come. I got 99 problems but a bitch ain't one." This isn't to say that he hasn't used derogatory language when describing women in the past (just listen to Big Pimpin'), but it is to say that he knows the listener is going to expect the worst from him and so he decides to outsmart them in this song. That's my take on it.

Terry Gross (NPR/Fresh Air) did a great interview with him where he describes the storyline. I suggest you check it out: http://www.npr.org/2011/11/25/142506767 ... -interview

    Perfect and correct. :D

I think you're looking at it the wrong way and he's NOT calling -all- females bitches.

when describing my group of friends, there is the one that thinks too much (me :)) the one that doesn't think AT ALL, the alcoholic, the slut, the granola one and the bitch. She openly calls herself one and yes, we all call her one, too!

Interesting, thanks for taking the time to write this. I am still not fully persuaded, but what you say makes sense. Also, thanks to all the people who have expressed their support or agreement in private messages :)

Everyone threw up there two cents. You know some people get to the point and some people pussyfoot and some are just assholes. Who cares Jose. People have attacked me to for some of my posts. I'm sure meme braced for for tongue lashes. We all have voices, some loud some soft some big some small. I enjoy the smart ass remarks and I enjoy your remarks. Frankly I enjoy our freedom to converse openly whether harsh, lude or respectful. Sometimes I have more respect for people have different views and speak their minds. Better than silence.

This actually made me laugh out loud.

He is referring to a woman when he uses the term "bitch" ("If you're having girl problems I feel bad for you son/I got 99 problems but a bitch ain't one"). Of the 99 problems in the character's life, a bitch/woman in his life isn't a problem. The second verse in the song refers to the protagonist getting pulled over and refusing to be illegally searched by the police, so the K-9 unit is called in to sniff the car. You couldn't possibly be serious when you suggested he was rapping about a female dog, right?

    ;)

It sounds like a huge stretch to me, but redmosquito based his/her insight on JayZ's explanation of his own song. I am getting quite the schooling on JayZness in the last couple of days...

Sounds like a huge stretch to you?! Just read the lyrics, the story being told is quite simple to follow along with.

Not sure what exactly you're trying to ask/say, as your post isn't very coherent. Are you asking whether I have a problem using the term "bitch"? The answer is no. I called the old man that cut me off this morning during my commute a bitch among other things. Regardless, in the song being discussed the bitch in question is a woman.

I'm with you, meme. While I'm happy about the collaboration, it's disheartening - not offensive - that they performed a song which is antithetical to the values for which I have so much respect and admiration for them. I haven't had the heart to watch it.

I think it's funny that out of four pages of nastiness I only got one attempt at explaining to me what it is that I knew nothing about.
