When do you think it will begin? How?
Here's a new demo called "in the fire":

Good call. I also think we're in a depression right now. But, we don't say it now - history will. I guess the question is - when will it become evident to everyone in the present?

I don't think a "traditional" world war will occur again. The stakes are too high for the superpowers.

I get you, but I think it will if stakes for them decrease substantially, a scenario like a near-complete collapse of the dollar. Politicians get desperate. And if we're getting desperate here, the world at large will be too.

The main victors in WWII, i.e. the ones who beat Germany, were the USSR. Our contribution in that theatre was probably less than 25% of the war effort to topple Nazi Germany. Although we were the dominant force in defeating Japan. We did make large materiel contributions to the Russian war effort, which they were reluctant in acknowledging.

Our contributions to WWI were even smaller. Our entrance into WWI 3 years after it started was basically a psychological blow to Germany and persuaded their soldiers to mutiny more than the Allied soldiers. US soldiers had little tactical impact on The Great War.

I'm not trying to deface the contributions and the 400,000 or so Americans who were killed in those wars, but this was a small fraction of the costs suffered by other countries. Of course, I wouldn't want to tell that to a Marine who was on Iwo Jima. ;)

Also, what we've had going on since 2001 totally pales in comparison to the hell that was WWI & WWII. I'd suggest reading up on it a little more.

Don't fuck with me on history. 8-)

No bragging about power. That's what's wrong.

Yeah, good point, especially since I have to worry about all those South Philly invasions. I am pretty certain if I die as a result of a World War, it will be in a massive explosion and not something a gun could have prevented.

Agreed. I don't own a gun, but I do think a gun could come in useful in an economic state like in Greece or worse, however. When the economy collapses, a gun would probably be a useful form of protection because fraud, abuse, theft, etc. would rapidly increase and the police force's power would rapidly diminish.

To me - if WWIII is confirmed, it will happen well after a confirmed depression just like the last two. So, I think the above would happen first.

I like how all these post apocalyptic TV shows and movies have guns and ammo at shortages but somehow there is an abundance of crossbows and arrows.

Aren't there supposed to be three guns for every person whereas there is probably one crossbow for every 10,000?

I blame the Hunger Games and dumb producers.

If there was a Zombie Apocolypse, America would probably be the safest place on the planet, but ya know, that makes for boring t.v.

I don't remember learning anything about a depression before WWI, but maybe you could direct me to this info.

The term depression was used loosely up until the Great Depression. Sometimes it was used in place of panic, sometimes it was used in place of recessions, which also just meant lesser depression. There was and still is no formal definition for Depression. There were plenty of economic downturns, and debt scenarios, that preceded WWI in the US. And there were more in the EU, which was the trigger zone. I would say the Long Depression played a part, but the data says it was 10+ years prior.

In my opinion, another trigger was the creation of the Federal Reserve locally and more centralized banking in early 1900s. US was gaining power at the time so our system did play a part in trade. We have to know for sure data back then was miniscule and rough if useful at all, so a lot of what we deem as catalysts are simply guesses based on limited and terrible data.
