(CNN) -- Police took a man into custody Monday after "multiple people" were shot near Texas A&M University, a police official said.
Several law enforcement officers were among the people shot, Rhonda Seaton of the College Station Police Department told CNN. She didn't have information on how many people were shot or their conditions.
She said a person identified as the gunman was in custody. The shooting happened about one block from campus, Seaton said.

"multiple casualties are involved" and that the suspect appears to have been "shooting from a house with automatic weapons."

#TEXAS U/D #BREAKING MASS SHOOTING: OVER 100 ROUNDS OF AUTOMATIC GUN FIRE REPORTED. 2 OFFICERS DOWN. GUN FIRE STILL BEING REPORTED. #911BUFF

Again. Those completely necessary automatic weapons.

I guess if people were carrying, they would have been able to 'take action' before the police got there (remember... it takes ages for cops to arrive) and 'get the guy' who, obviously had illegal weapons (because no responsible gun owner would do such a thing), unless he was mentally ill but not diagnosed yet...

So... another one - third that made the news since this thread started. I'm sure many other shootings have not made national news....

Those ones get to me the most (well, this one was just off campus, so not the same, but it reminds me), because I work at a university, and deal with students who are dealing with really difficult circumstances including metal illness all the time, and not only that, but I'm in a position where sometimes I have to give bad news to these people, i.e., sorry, I can't accommodate what you're asking, and therefore your are going to flunk out. There is a small part of me that's worried someone will snap at my university. I've met several who definitely seemed to be teetering on the edge of some kind of breakdown. Chances are it's all good... but these university rampages are still scary to hear about!

Yeah, there have been differing assessments of what may have happened in the Columbine case. Unfortunately we don't have any clear answers so it's all speculation about what may have happened, who may have been the leader, etc. My point is that crimes like this happen and there does not have to be a psychotic disorder at play; sometimes a depressive disorder may be the only sort of mental illness involved

    was he delusional?
does he have a mental capacity challenge?

I would say 2 out of 3 there I would, as far as classic depression I would think that would not be
sufficient explanation of his actions, in my opinion.
geez is this still going on?!?!?

These get to me too. I'm assuming a lot of students would have lived in the off-campus housing near where this happened. We actually had a shooting in my office several years ago. A student shot and killed another student. It's very scary when you come in contact with people who are teetering on that edge.

this bullshit is getting out of control. i am scared for anyone at any age whom is attending school or working there. maybe scared isn't the best choice of word...

concerned, worried, and so on... yep... scared. if i were a parent i would be insane about this shit.
i attened some college. the pressure does exist. some snap. i personally loved the pressure and tackled it head on and studied my ass off. i guess some get under that pressure and decide to shoot people.

    School IS hard...

Discovered that when I took a 300 level class my Freshman year and failed the midterm... which was the first grade of the semester... coming with a little over a month left in the semester. Worked my ass off, read a lot of material, presented and discussed well in class and finished two more large papers. And I reached out for help... Had someone edit my final paper for me... He used to post here, WaveRyder, WaveRider, or something was his name on here. He's a Journalist... helped a lot... especially with a very picky grader for a professor I had.

And I get the pleasure of having another class with her next semester.

Never once did I think of shooting up the campus....

    question...

has a woman ever done a mass shooting at a school or anywhere else?

this is interesting to me. the difference between men & women is incredible. males are violent. females not so much. you'd think the world would have more female leaders than it does. basically males are dumb as shit and have kept women held down.

times are changing you stupid shits in D.C. (and other places/countries)
i want a woman president so bad it is unreal. i am convinced men are 90% useless

It's certainly a lot rarer for a female to do a mass shooting. Women usually show their aggression in other ways. There was a shooting at a mall near me back in the 80s. I think there have been a few other cases, but this is the only one I know of off the top of my head

    Interesting.

I thought of the woman (in England?) who was the impetus for the Boomtown Rats song - "I Don't Like Mondays".
