I'm seriously considering taking a marker today. If someone with one of those ridiculous numbers wants past me after they're done screwing around sightseeing and having a beer in a bar, I'll ask for the number. And it it's, say, 94 or something I'll produce my marker and give myself a quick 93 and tell the person to stay the hell where he/she is right now...

That's just funny. I recall seeing something similar while waiting for GA admission at a U2 show a few years back. Several fans, wearing laminates and representing a certain U2 fan website, were patrolling the line in hopes of keeping people from cutting in while letting friends/acquaintances get through. It was all just sad and troubling and I remember thinking that at least I'd never have to put up with that nonsense at a PJ show.

I don't want to write only about the people in the crowd so I'll start with that before my review..

The crowd was great - early entry went really smooth. Everyone was really great even during X.

Once pj started a lot of people without wristbands I should say started pushing very forcefully through people. People literally pushing into you until you moved or they rammed through ten people at a time like they were moshing but just pushing people out of the way with no thoughts for safety or people being hurt.

Ed asked the crowd to be safe. Then he said move three steps back. Then during rvm he asked during the jam - more to a few people in particular to move back because they were hurting people. Then once again before the encore he made everyone move back again (3 times now). I'm glad to see other reviews here mentioning the assholes. One guy - as me and my girlfriend had not our hands but our arms locked together around the elbows - tried to push through us so hard I had to spin to the side to protect her from this guy as continued to push through us. I was not about to let him get between us so I moved over and then looked at him. He looked at me and apologized and I'm glad he did. I surely didn't want to punch his teeth out but when you put your hands on my girlfriend I will protect her before I let some drunk asshole hurt her.

My opinion is this. In the states we have seats which I've always wanted to be at a ga floor show. But if we're going to have standing floors, then the ten club should have dividers To separate the ga sections. I know they have in Prague and in Amsterdam.

The show was great besides the assholes in the crowd. I decided to move back about midway on the floor during the encore - but we started in row 3-5. We were so close! Every time I travel to see pj they open with long road so I've been calling that for months. When they began with it, the emotions started quickly as I've lost my 21 year old brother, fiancé / gf of ten years to cancer nearly two years ago, my dad, and my stepdad all within the last few years. Hearing long road really makes me think of the people I've lost and seemed very fitting for me at least for this to be the first song I hear after two years of waiting to see pj again.

Why go and given to fly we're amazing - as soon as why go started everyone around us was bouncing up and down and it's something I've seen in videos for nearly 20 years but have never experienced. It was like the ocean just every one bouncing and singing. The ten club section was really into the show and clapping and singing as was the whole arena. Amazing energy I've only seen before in new York at MSG.

As for the rest of the show -I enjoyed every song but in my tree was a great surprise. Saw it a few times and had a feeling it would come tonight. Got my first it's ok tag on daughter after 24 shows. RVM was on fire with a long jam. Immortality also had a long jam and a great drum solo.

Getting the end just seemed to fit after all I've been through as well and was glad to hear it. When I watch setlists online and see just breathe at every show I'm like ugh but last night was the biggest sing alomg I've heard on it and was great at the show. I've seen hard to imagine at bonnaroo 08 but hearing it in the encore was nice and fitting.

Evolution was nice and I'm glad to see it this way after Prague after hearing about the jam and the ooh oh oh's during stones solo. They kept it going and did screw up but it was cool. I've seen DTE 19 times out of 24 shows but last nights was the best yet.

The second encore rocked really hard. I was shocked to turn around and see a banner for rocking in the free world that was truly 50 seats long. It went down 3-4 section of the seats. So I was ok that they switched baba for rocking, even tho baba is one song I'm dying to hear.

For the record, release, Betterman, crazy Mary and baba were scratched off the setlist. Saw the setlist during the show so I'm sure that's what the songs were.

First of 5 shows and it was a great! Can't wait for more.

    Tonight I expect to hear
    Betterman
    Porch
    Crazy Mary
    Baba
    Nothing as it seems
    Present tense
    And many more great songs...

I think these 'double barriers', etc. are more of a venue thing. Don't think 10C (or any other fan club) has much say in them. Also, wristband may give early entry but does not give exclusivity to the barrier if others can get there. Whether by 'normal' means or by being an asshole. Even if they do have 'golden circles', a lot of time it's for the 'early birds' so may not just be for the fan clubs but for all people who arrive early enough until the space is filled.

This show was fantastic. Great set list with great energy (from the band), and one of my all-time favorite shows... The best part of it all - this was only the first of two :)

A limited list of "I'm a little tired and don't want to write" highlights include:

Long Road, In My Tree, Immortality (an absolutely beautiful rendition), I Believe in Miracles, The End (which sounded like it had accompaniment even though it was just Eddie), RITFW (a particlarly "rocking" version from Stone which must be accredited to the "help" from Ray).

Last but not least, the best "highlight" of all was the beautiful Berlin woman standing next to me. I've heard stories in the past about people falling in love because of this band, and I always liked that idea to the point where I've seen about 40 shows in 5 different countries.

Until last night, the couple instances of "I had a great time with you - I'll call you sometime...," put me at approximately 0.2 for 37.

But after this show, it was 1.2 for 38 to the point where I'm longer selling my extra for tonight and I'm taking someone who (as she put it), "doesn't know the music, and should be sitting in the bleachers rather than the floor..."

We'll be on the floor, and I'd like to say if any combination of Can't Keep, Parting Ways, Come Back, and/or Sad are played this will be my last show... But then again, Stephanie's "favorite" song from Berlin#1 was The End, so we'll see what happens.

that's exactly it - it's venue specific. The early entry wrist band give 10C members an opportunity to get up to the front.... not have a god given right to be in front of the stage. I do remember once in the point depot the mosh pit was set aside as a 10c area - or at least the wrist bands would get you in, and they were given out with the tcks... and it wasn't overly packed.

Anybody else find last night's IMT to be remarkable? It's always a favorite for me live, and I agree Matt was terrific-- but wasn't it also an unusually jamming and long version? I loved it!

This obsession for front row is crazy. Why can't people just enjoy the gig instead of fighting over getting to the front? I've never been front row but its certainly not spoiled my gigs. I don't need to see how white Ed's teeth are to enjoy a gig!

    I am happy beyond words.

Well done to whoever sorted out the rocking in the free world banner, that was amazing (and I finally got to see the band play it thanks to you). Have a great photo of it which I'll stick up after we fly home on Sunday. Gutted not to be going tonight, but last night will live long in the memory

There's just something so right about PJ and Berlin, don't ya think?

This was my 8th PJ show and my second trip to Berlin. i have always had such a great time there! I think its such a special city.

I have started a game, its called the "Meet PJ band members in the Berlin Tiergarten" game. In '09 I met mike, this year I met Jeff!!

    Jeff2-1-1.jpg

So, I hope to go to Berlin another 3 times when I will surely meet the other three members in the park, then i'll have the full set!

I thought the setlist and the band were rocking, my only negative was the sound. Its the same at the 02 in London, the systems are so high tech they are designed to throw the sound out there. I ended up being quite close but the sound was actually better when I went back about 20 metres... and there was more space!

    Thanks PJ, and thanks Berlin!
"My body's nobody's body but mine"
  • Finally access to the www and time to speak out my thank you for this tour.
    Uhhh PJ you just rock!
I chose Berlin 1 as the one to respond to... although I was a happy one to get to both shows... 2 different shows, 2 different people I went with but for me it was one long rock opera. thanks so much for the sound, the rythmn and the energy, dear Pearl Jam. Such a pleasure it was again...
And so many things that blew me away because it was perfect timing, perfect message and perfect playing:
Show 1 "it's o.k." and the sign/ banger "With you we will keep on rocking in a free world!" :P
Show 2 the instrumental guitar solo and "Mother!" - Pink Floyd

Wow, what a band, what a music and so many wonderful and nice people/fans around...
thanks to them, too, especially to the two punks ;) always around me and Th.
    I believe in miracles again....
and scream my thanxs out ...
Rock on dear Pearl Jam, please keep on rocking... so we can spin around, too, with much love inside... n.
there is no way to peace, peace is the way!

Great Show, I missed the last two times Berlin (Why always Berlin, even when there is only one show in Germany... Berlin is not in the middle, it`s a long way up there!!! ) because it was during the week. This time I already had holidays so it was possible to go to Berlin... YEAH!

As already written: Early entry was a timewasting joke!!! :fp: It's only usefull when there is a seperate front of stage area. Maybe I'll be there before the public entry, but after going to the bar (nessesary while waiting in that warm hall) the place is lost!
So: WHY that closed arena in summer??? Wuhlheide is maybe one of the best open air locations in Germany. Next time only there please! O2-Arnea was too hot, sound was bad.

So long, PJ was simply amazing- it was my 4th time and every show was special in it's own way. Respect for the show, with no high-tech multimedia support. Just the guys and their talents.

My biggest wish: When there is only one show in Germany on the next tour and it must be Berlin (Why ever...) then:
WUHLHEIDE and local support: Beatsteaks!!! :corn:

Had seated tickets with my wife for the show (her first  ) right across the stage behind the soundboard and the crowd looked REALLY rough in the pit.
The guy right in front of me was rocking out the entire show (He was really exited for evenflow  ) But during Hard to Imagine I notice he is not there. He came back after the next song had started carrying drinks :nono: :fp: . Complete fail at life!:lol:
Still can't believe I met Mike Mccready at the Guggenheim and got a pic with him!!!!!

Yes, nice idea indeed. Sorry, but my kids are in 6th grade. They're about 12 years old and not interested in music. :(
They are listing to the pitched shit like "Jason Derulo", "Lady Gaga" or Gansta-Hip-Hop by "Haftbefehl" :fp:

Only 2 shows for me on this tour so they better be up for it on tuesday :D
