yes, slot machines and casino's are abundant in Montana...if I remember correctly, there is a slot machine at the Taco John's in Butte (Taco John's is like a local Taco Bell)

Any chance these bars open early knowing that a lot of people are in town for this or is it a local Sunday law?
    Good question.
Is this town all religious or something? That would be an insane law!!
If the Union Club won't open early, there must be other places that would be okay as well (I don't care if it's a dive bar personally, but some might be more picky!).

Not sure about Missoula, but Butte is VERY Catholic...but Butte is also a big drinking town.
The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.

Well yeah, CATHOLIC - of course there is a lot of drinking there! I was more worried about a heavy Baptist population or something.

Welcome to the Rhino in downtown Missoula, established in 1987.
    We feature:
50 beers on tap, including many local favorites
50 choices of Single Malt Scotch
    Infused Vodka, Tequila and Bourbon
    Open Daily from 11am – 2am
    Shuffleboard
    Pool
    Pinball
    ATM

    I'm sold.
That sounds good to me. Shuffleboard! ... Wonder if they also have darts and forgot to mention?
50 beers on tap?? That's crazy. I don't drink beer anymore unfortunately (makes me feel sick for some reason), but that is impressive.

The Rhino also features pool tables, a fully-stocked liquor selection, dart boards and outdoor seating.

I really don't see anything wrong with 5. If you need to get your drinkin on before then, by all means do so at your hotel or another bar. Then get on over to the pre-party. I agree with trusting the Missoula locals to let us know what's what. And if they say that this Union Club is the right spot, cool spot, roomier spot, then fine.

I also see our ranks decimated by all of those true fans that aren't going to want to do the pre-party in favor of waiting out all day for GA positioning.

:( I'm going alone... I don't really want to drink alone at the Motel 6 until 5.

And with all the awesome pals on here, you really don't think you can find one to get a drink with somewhere anywhere in the whole town for your Sunday day drinking till 5? ha ha.

don't the adam center doors open at 6:30? if you are on the floor and need to be up front, you'll want to be at the stadium by 6(?)

and imo, going to the bar isn't about getting hammered and stupid for the show....it's about hanging out with friends, bullshitting and having a good time.

Yeah, I know - was just kidding kind of... But I still think 5 is too late. The show actually starts at 7:30, people will need to get themselves there for early admission for GA (when is that btw?), plus the walk however far that ends up being, and buying merch, drinks, bathrooms, etc etc ... starting the party at 5 will mean a 1 hour party max assuming anyone wants to see Mudhoney.

Leaving the wife and 2 small girls home for the weekend so I can go live it up with some cool people. I'd rather hang with others than drink alone. If Union wants to open early I'm down for that but right now the rhino looks like a better option.

    Shuffleboard kinda seals it too...

Yeah, I see and agree then. I guess I was thinking more along the lines of being there from 5-8, then the walk, merch, bathrooms etc. and get to your seat. A big difference between GA and reserved peeps for this one. Let's do that fat-ass Rhino then.

I'll talk to the Union, see if they wouldn't mind opening earlier. The Rhino is a kickass bar, one of my favorites, but it's smaller. They have 1 shuffleboard, 1 pool table (That's shitty), and NO darts! :(

The KOA is way way way to far away, which is a shame. The parks no music thing is a bummer, and it's a gamble with the weather. If the Union doesn't open up early, we'll go check out the Rhino, it's an excellent backup and you should all probably drop by and check out their massive beer selection.

Sounds good. If nothing else we can do the pre-pre party at The Rhino. :D

How far are the two from each other? All that want to can head to the Rhino (esp. if holding GA) and then the Unioin kicks off at 5. No?

81 posted something about there being a dart board at The Rhino, I think he got it off their website. Anyway, I don't really care where it is, as long as there can be music, booze, tables and chairs I guess, washrooms, and enough space for people who go. :D I think a 12 opening is really good, because people can just show up whenever they want to - no official start time is even necessary really, is it? And yeah, everyone can move to the Union at 5 if they want (is it really that nice??).
