Yeh I've seen Pearl Jam, too. But I can't remember the dates.
It's actually the opposite with me...at first I liked it very much, loved the version they played in Berlin two years ago. But nowadays I can't listen to it anymore!
It is not a good song.....maybe the worst PJ song in the bands history.
I would challenge you to find a worse one.
Stupid Mop.......
I really like Johnny Guitar but then again I just frickin' love Backspacer......It's really different sounding for them but in a good way.
I think that, with Stupid mop, they tried to do something like Revolution N° 9, and it went wrong... as if Revolution N° 9 was a cool song... anyway...

It happens, you get tired of some, or you simply worn them out...
... I am not in the business of being liked anymore ...
I really dig the song now... but mostly from seeing it live and it growing on me... I was not crazy about the song at all when the album first came out... and really, on my first listen through Backspacer, I thought Force of Nature and Unthought Known were the tracks that really stood out... but the album and Johnny Guitar have grown on me now, but I still like it live more than I do the album version...

Supersonic 9 out of 10?! :?
I would be curious to know how many of those who LIKE Johnny Guitar are musicians and how many are not.
In past discussions with some of these more "obscure" tunes, there seems to have been a correlation between liking or disliking a song and whether or not one plays a musical instrument. It's been pretty distinct too - not much middle ground. For me, as a drummer, songs like Evacuation, Johnny Guitar, God's Dice, Big Wave, etc. are fun as hell to play on the drums and the rhythm and groove of a song are what I initially gravitate towards. The appreciation for the lyrics or a guitar solo usually comes later.

The first thing I thought of when i saw this song title was of Van Halen's Top Jimmy. And then it made me think of Top Jimmy and Johnny Guitar playing a gig together. And since then, I've been waiting for another of my favorite bands to write a song called Jerry Drumkits, and we can put the whole band together.

Exactly, The 9 out of 10 for Supersonic is a red flag for me. Not that I hate supersonic, its an ok tune but its cake to play on guitar and kind of boring. I agree with you drummerboy, I wonder if there is a correlation between songs like Johnny Guitar, Gods Dice(wayyy underrated) and playing an instrument.
Also, its not just about a song being hard/easy to play and the musicianship that goes into a song. As Eddie says Rockin in the Free world, "only has 3 fucking chords" and countless other songs like Brain of J are easy to play but they FUCKING ROCK. So, I dont want anyone to take this as, "only difficult songs are good songs." Thats not what I mean.

Just be careful you don't get left alone with Randy Roadie
Supersonic is a great song to listen to and I gave a 9 because I think Eddie does an awesome job on it, maybe 9 was generous, but I certainly wouldn't give it less than an 7, I threw that list together real fast in like 2 minutes, so the likelyhood of making a few mistakes was high, but hey I tried
Big Bank Hank's ranking of songs off album are way off, except for JG. 7s and 7.5s for the best songs on album? You are way off sir.
why don't you try ranking them I mean except for JG I really could listen non-stop to the whole album repeatedly, I mean a 7.5 for a Pearl Jam song is like a 9 for another band, they just have set the ratings bar so high but there mass inventory of awesome songs, so other songs of their's get judged more harshly I really do dig 9 of the 11 tracks a lot on Backspacer
I don't know if there is much correlation. I'm a guitar player and I'm in between you guys. Love Johnny Guitar. Gods' Dice is my least favorite on Binaural. Not really into Big Wave...think it's all just personal preference as always
Gonna See My Friend - 8 (love this song, i think it's very underrated)
Got Some - 8.5 (the "Hail Hail" or "Save You" of this record - solid rocker/concert staple)
The Fixer - 4 (fun enough song, but the lyrics are super cheesy)
Johnny Guitar - 3 (just can't get into it at all)
Just Breathe - 7 (still a beautiful song - overplayed doesn't make a song bad)
Amongst The Waves - 4 (another one with a super cheesy feel to me, and it sounds like contemporary adult rock)
Unthought Known - 10 (brilliant)
Supersonic - 3 (meh, it's okay but i would never miss NOT hearing it)
Speed of Sound - 5 (i actually really enjoyed this live)
Force of Nature - 7 (great song, have loved it since i first got Backspacer)
The End - 6 (good song, seems like just an Ed solo song though)
I know the rankings may seem harsh, but I was just underwhelmed by Backspacer. There are a few really strong songs on this album that I adore, but no middle ground for me. The ones I don't love, I strongly dislike. This was the first PJ album with more than 1-2 songs I didn't care for on it.

sure Amongst The Waves is cheesy but when everyone sings "I can feel like I have a soul that has been saved, it is pretty damn cool, it's a fun party song live to me, I dig it
JG is my favourite song off backspacer. I'm a musician and it was the first and only song I learnt off that album. Have to say it's my least fave album to date, never really grew on me like the previous 2 did after my initial indifference to them.
It's all subjective people, what I love you might hate (Hello, Sandy Allen) and vice versa. My favourite PJ song today is Who You Are. go figure.

I think were starting to see a correlation here. Topaz only learned JG off of Backspacer. Mr. PJstatTracker who also plays guitar with one hand while developing apps with the other hand also loves JG. So Drummerboy, I think we have something here.
