Quick question for all amsterdam residents...

im travelling there for three days with two young children for the shows.....is there any cool places to take them in the day time and any places in the centre they would be allowed at night time for meals and drinks with my wife and parents whilst I take in the shows?

any ideas and suggestions greatly appreciated

I am travelling as well with my 2 young children (8-12 yo which are going to the shows aswell) in Amsterdam from the 25th to the 28th of June. We can leave the 4 of them in a playground a visit some coffeeshops ourselves
I think there's a zoo and an aquarium . Also i heard that there's something like a technology museum for children. The canal trip with a boat is interesting too. I'll be in touch if i find out myself something interested.
At the night time they can visit retaurants, there will not be any problem with that.
Also there is a Madam Tussauds museum in Amsterdam.

Hey Paul...I have been here twice and have had a fun time each time. While I did not have kids there (since I don't have any) but there were plenty little ones having a good time. The train ride from Amsterdam to The Hague is a pretty one and not too long. Check it out...

We were there for a day last month. Went to Anne Franks house and the Van Gogh museum. Kids might not get much out of them. But Amsterdam is a fantastic place - you'll have a great time :D

We are thinking to rent a house boat somewhere in the canals, I think it would be fun so sleep at the boat :D

If anyone knows some good place where to look for them I would appreciate the info ;)

First of all...for anyone heading there (I am so ridiculously jealous of you...;) Have fun)

My fiance and I had already started planning our wedding when this date was announced. Right away we knew that that's where we want to get married. At the PJ show in the Dam...surrounded by PJ fans <3 That's love. lol...we just can't swing it now.

Anyway, Amsterdam is absolutely gorgeous. One thing you can't pass up on, is a visit to Anne Frank's house. It's haunting, but really surreal to even imagine what that little girl and her family were going through. http://www.annefrank.org/

Oooh also!!! I went alone, and stayed at a bed and breakfast. It was cheaper than the hostels, and SUPER nice. I would really do your research (check the budget sites etc). You can find some pretty crazy deals right on the canals.
