Mike on That Metal Show

Mike is way too humble and sweet. I'll bet his alter ego ... "Evil Mike" was sitting there thinking ... "you guys realize I have been selling out shows around the world for 21 years straight right?". Or "Hey dummies ... you understand you have a band member of Pearl Jam on your show right? You know that's rare right?"
It just bothers me how little they seemed to care about how relevant Mike or his band still is ... as far as still being able to headline top festivals ... release #1 albums (BS went #!) or how other "hard rock" bands (Anthrax, Megadeth ect...) respect them big time.
BTW ... Pearl Jam not only shows more passion and honesty when they perform than any of those garbage heavy metal/gimmicky hair bands they constantly have on the show ... they absolutely crush them live and in the community!!!!!
Rant over.
Rick
I felt the opposite. I was surprised they said PJ was a first ballot HoF band. And the 2nd guests on the show usually only get the last segment with "Whatever happened to......" and "The Throwdown", so he got a whole extra segment from most others on there.
I did like the quick sorta eye roll McC put in there when one of the "comedians" made a comment about Eddie Vedder and surf boards.0 -

I love how you put comedians in "quotes" - have you ever seen either of these guys do stand up? Ugh.... :fp:I'll ride the wave where it takes me

No. If they ever said anything remotely funny, in their attempts on the show, I'd be more inclined to check them out.0 -

I'll have to go back and watch the eye roll again. Did'nt catch that. Did you percieve it as it an eye roll towards Jim Florintine or a negetive eye roll towards Eddie?"Had my eyes peeled both wide open, and I got a glimpse...of my innocense, got back my inner sence, baby got it...still got it"0 -

just watched it....great show!
I've always loved this show because they go very in-depth with their guests and topics.
Of any genre, it seems as if the metal genre has the best documentaries.0 -

Eye roll may not be the right word, but there definitely seemed to be an expression. Definitely more negative towards Florentine, like "you don't really have any idea what EV is like or about and you're just going by the freshest generalization".0 -

I agree with you, definitely towards Florentine. Although you put it more eloquently than I did. I took it as Mike saying to himself, "shut the fuck up dick". I can't stand Florentine. He's not funny, and thinks he is the hottest thing on earth, meanwhile he looks like a grown up Bobby Brady from the Brady Bunch.0 -
I love TMS so I was really excited about this, but it panned out pretty much exactly how I thought it would. Trunk is obsessed with UFO so it didn't surprise me that he focused on Schenker. The metal community is very snotty in some respects (I would know, my hubby is about as metal as it gets), so the fact that Mike got any good reception was cool. I was nervous about how he would be received but when Hammond shouted out respect to him, that was super awesome. I did kind of do a little  for Mike when he said Kerry King was the best Megadeth guitarist outside of Mustaine, but most people that aren't totally plugged into the metal scene wouldn't know how to answer that either.
I actually really like Jim Florentine as a comedian, but it's clear that none of them really knew what else to say about Mike, because, let's be honest, PJ is not their cup of tea. Either way, super cool to finally see someone I absolutely love on TMS!WI '98, WI '99 (EV), WI '00, Chgo '00, MO '00, Champaign '03, Chgo '03, WI '03, IN '03, MI '04, Chgo '06:N1 & 2, WI '06, Chgo '07, Chgo '08 (EV:N1), Chgo '09:N1 & 2, Chgo '11 (EV:N1), WI '11:N1 & 2, Philly '12, Wrigley '13, Pitt '13, Buff '13, Detroit '14, MKE '14, Wrigley '16: N1 & N2, Seattle '18 N2, Wrigley '18: N1 & N2, Fenway '18 N1, STL '22, St Paul '23 N2, Chgo '23: N1 & N2, Wrigley '24 N1 & 20 -
Eddie Trunk is a big fan of many of the Seattle bands. I follow him on Twitter and he is very complimentary all the time when someone asks him a question about AIC, SG, PJ, etc. He does have a huge ego, but like him or not, Trunk knows his stuff and can tell you more about rock music than anyone on the planet. He is an encylcopedia on all things rock. He wrote and released a wonderful autobiographical book last year that I read and then had Eddie sign at an event a couple of months ago. I suggest everyone who loves rock music to get it and give it a quick read. It'll take you back to your youth. Having been born in the mid-70s and growing up in the '80s, I'm a huge fan of bands like Tesla, AC/DC, GNR, Def Leppard, RATT, etc., so this book was right up my alley.United Center (Chicago): 8/24/09

Good show. I like how it went. PJ is not metal so I figured they wouldn't talk about em much. Mostly UFO and Mike's love for Metal. Very cool to me that he was even on TMS.0

I've always been a fan of Eddie Trunk- hes been in radio for over 30 yrs and knows his shit. As far as my comments about Florentine- I caught him and the Killers of comedy a few yrs back and, let's say he didn't kill. Afterwards, some people were signing autographs (I wasn't waiting for one, but witnessed), and he was just a tool to fans. Just turned me off.0

I don't mean to offend anyone, a lot of what I say should be taken with a grain of salt... that said for most of you I'm a stranger on a computer on the other side of the world, don't give me that sort of power!0
