  • I love that all of you (well not all but alot) have made comments on the pants-
I think it was a great part of the last tour (the entire LLC tour, not just the CEO tour) and it was fun joking about it all with you.

I'll need to know right away if he is wearing the same pants tonight-

the CORD thread is just a few key strokes away! :D

For a bunch of nutty libs, you all are not bad!

The entire crowd is seated and enjoying the show. During the first few chords of "Small Town" 4 guys in the front of the mezzanine decide to stand up. Then they never sit down. The crowd behind them start asking them to sit and are greeted with ignorance. Girls come out of their seats, walk down and implore the guys to sit, they are greeted with FU it's a concert. The 60ish year old female usher asks them to sit and is told where she can go-real nice fellas we have here. "Society" comes on, apparently these guys don't know the song and use this opportunity to confront the crowd. One of the neanderthals proceeds to walk up the stairs and starts challenging a couple guys to a fight. He then starts smacking his hands in the seated guys' faces. The slobbering idiots buddies see what's going on and proceed to join him in making bigger asses of themselves (if that was possible.) One of the idiots rips off his shirt and starts to mimic a special needs kid holding a sparkler (WE ARE AT THE OPERA HOUSE!).
Finally 6 male ushers come down and ask the guys to leave. They refuse. A cop is then brought on the scene and asks the same. "After this song" they say and return to their seats. Mind you during all this, hundreds of people are yelling "Throw them out" and cheered wildly when they saw the cop. But NOTHING happened. WTF-no security!!!!
Please Opera House, tonight have a few more police officers in the building to handle these types of meatheads. I know you're not used to this type of crowd so I implore you to be more prepared. A great experience was severely tarnished.
Anyone else see this debacle going down??

    Wow, that sucks.

I am almost positive I know who these guys are. Before the show, 4 complete idiots were YELLING at an usher to try to get in the orchestra saying that they paid $1000 for their tickets and refused to sit in the Mezz. I looked at their tickets and they were good seats and I told them they would probably be happier with those than down on the floor, and they finally left the poor old lady alone.

    here's the globe's review:

    http://www.boston.com/ae/music/articles/2008/08/02/vedders_simplicity_confounds_but_pleases/

great show. i can't even imagine how much better it would have been if not for the lowlights below. i was lucky enough to get tickets for face through the ticketmaster sale and i would have easily paid double what i did. amazingly there were tons of posters available after the show.

trouble, arc and the into the wild songs were the highlights for me. i was hoping for long nights, but to no avail.

    the lowlights for me were:

    (1) all of the yellers and screamers. when ed says "i didn't think we'd get the screaming assholes until ny." maybe most were too drunk to notice, but that's not a compliment that deserves a round of applause. (a security guard outside said to me when i was waiting to cross the street 'they were here drinking since 5pm')

the one yelled out comment that was hilarious though was when ed put on the white coat before arc and someone screamed out "paging dr. vedder" which resulted in the "do you want some drugs?" repsonse.

    (2) all of the people that couldn't stay in their seats for more than a song or two. it was unreal how many people kept getting up and down and then couldn't find their seats. there wasn't that many people moving around me at the two mansfield shows last month - combined.

    (3) people who felt the need to keep taking pictures with their flash dialed up to the brightest notch.

i really hope for the sake of everyone going tonight that the yelling and screaming and constant up and down is taken down a notch. it will just make the night all that much better. just my $0.02.

*** edit *** i totally forgot to pick up a program. anyone want to be kind enough to pick up an extra one for me? thanks if you can't, no problem if you can't.

  • Wow...just amazing. Blew away my already high expectations. Ever since first seeing Arc live I've begged for it in the back of my mind at every show...years later, it is every bit as stunning..I'll be hopped up on that drug for weeks!

..and I had to pull my jaw off the floor just from hearing Liam...I just loved his ability to change not only from guitar to drums to voice, but from musical styles drastically in each song as well. I ran straight up to buy his CD during intermission, and they were both standing right there, so I quickly greeted them and complimented their excellent performance.

On the floor most of the crowd was well behaved. More annoying were the ushers that would push people aside and block views mid-song and stay there for MINUTES while they tried to get people to put their cell phones away. Much more distracting than the actual cameraphones.
Plus, I never got a program. I only realized during intermission when I saw others with them, then went up and asked all around and they said they were out. :( Can someone scan one in?

Sad to see there apparently are no official bootlegs of this show, despite the fact that they had microphones set on the crowd. I would LOVE a recording of this (Both Ed and Liam's set as well).

    Unfortunately, they're called 10 club members. :o

That statement couldn't be more false. Whenever I have 10 Club seats, the crowd around us are usually really cool and respectful. When we don't have 10 Club seats, we get the dumb drunkass knuckleheads who shout for 'Jeremy' and 'Evenflow' all night. People who are disrespectful to others and cause a scene because they dring too much and can't hold their liquor should be locked in a cage.

Click on database, then tour index. Should be able to find it from there.

All these reviews are slowly building my anticipation. Great setlist last night and the whole thing just seems to be a real unique experience. Except for the drunken buffoonery, hope that doesn't continue, but one can only hope.

Not to gloat, but I was lucky enough to be "Found" by one of the staff and upgraded to front row from my Mezz seats. The experience was unreal.... I have to say that I didn't even realize there was an audience there until the end, it was like a show just for me.

Being upfront, you could barely hear the hecklers. So I would assume he doesn't hear them as much as you think.

He started out the show like he just wanted to get it done, not smiles, just song after song. He then started to loosen up a bit. The other reviews are very accurate so I won't bore you with mine.

My highlights: Goodbye, Broken Heart and Man of the Hour, I never heard them live and it gave me goosebumps...

Low lights: No pics or set lists to be given out up front and the giant obnoxious red head that came up for the encore.

    Can't wait for tonight!

Loved the show last night. The amount of douchebaggery from the crowd was pretty bad, but eddie was good enough that the show was still good. I must say I panicked for a minute when ed abandoned Guaranteed- I was like "he's not gonna play it!" but then he came back to it :).

The absolute BEST part about this is that this is the Opera House. It's a theater built for optimal accoustics. Hearing eddie's voice in that place last night was a spine-tingling, goose-bumping, holding back tears experience. I just wished some of those songs were longer!!!

Liam Finn is awesome too. Don't skip it.

    Pretty damn good show.

I will admit that my buddy Jack was the one who "requested" Lukin and got his request granted, but that was his only shouting of the night, he wasn't one of the constant shouters.

Got me an EV Evel Kneveil pick, nice souvy.

Beautiflul work restoring the Opera House. Great place for that style of show.
    Liam Finn was quite impressive.

Way to go Jack...sounds like he has mastered the art of knowing when to express his desires & when to just go with the flow ;)

My husband and I had a nice present waiting for us when we got to our seats...a red, white & blue EV pick with lots of evidence of some guitar picking. My heart is racing even now as I write this.

My guest tonight will be my daughter...she's already called dibs on my Mansfield hoodie & my blue Canada Leaf shirt. She's so excited. She has grown up listening to Pearl Jam & finally gets to hear Eddie's voice LIVE.

I lucked out last Sunday night & got Mezzanine Left Box seats for both nights. There are only 6 seats in each box & we couldn't have asked for better box-mates than we had last night. We were sheltered from the fuckheads & I can only hope the luck continues tonight for my 12-year-old daughter's first EV show. I know she's going to love Liam Finn as well.

Wow, my heart sank when I saw that he played Untitled, but I feel a little better it was not "the Untitled." Maybe he'll play that for PJ next time on the west coast. Also, sounds like it was a great show, despite the yellers. Get used to that. On the west coast, they were quite common.

I really hope that people chill out for the Montreal dates, it sounds like a bunch of people have been distracted by the shouting. It's surprising how disrespectful some people are, pisses me off.

Most of all, I cannot believe the "Play PJ songs" comment. I would punch him in the balls, discretely.

Glad to hear Ed got in better spirits as the show went on!

So many of the fanviews have focused on the yellers. Let's not let it bring down the entire experience of these amazing shows.

I'd love to hear more about the music. Any different arrangements from the west coast shows? Someone said he switched up which instrument he used, more details please. Anyone bring a guest who has never seen Pearl Jam and gain a new convert? Sneek in for the soundcheck? Meet Ed after the show or see him around town?

Thanks for sharing your stories. It helps the new wave of solo tour withdrawal I'm going through.
