The concert poster artist Emek, and the Portland, Oregon disc golf club, Stumptown Disc Golf have brought two worlds of collectors together with the Wind Walker. The Wind Walker is a full color Discraft SuperCOLOR golf disc called the Buzz with a high resolution art print of Emek's on it. This art was used for Pearl Jam's concert poster for their show in Edmonton, Canada on September 23, 2011. This disc is being sold to raise money for the club's tournaments, including the PDGA National Tour Elite Series Event, The Beaver State Fling http://beaverstatefling.com/, June 15-17, 2012. This tournament will take place about 30 miles southeast of Portland, OR, near Estacada at McIver State Park.
Every disc golfer has some sort of disc collection. Most players that have been playing the game consistently for a few years seem to hang some of their favorite discs on a wall in there homes. Typically every tournament gives a simple custom stamped disc to all of the entrants. Sometimes a disc golf club will have a full color disc made for tournament fundraising. Most of these discs are never thrown and are collected by players.
Golf discs are like Frisbees but not for catching. The name Frisbee is a trademarked brand name, so the two types of discs are called freestyle discs or golf discs. The two types of discs are smaller in weight, but the golf discs are not as deep dished and are smaller in diameter. Most good players can throw a golf disc about 350 feet. Disc Golf is played pretty much the same as ball golf. In disc golf there is a tee pad for each hole and the hole is completed when the players disc comes to rest in the basket or chains. Typically a disc golf course has 18 holes, check out the PDGA's website, http://www.pdga.com/ to learn more about disc golf.
The Wind Walker will be sold through Stumptown disc golf, http://stumptowndiscgolf.org/. Their store http://www.4discgolf.com/StumptownDG will have a listing for the disc before the sale. The sale will take place on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at 6pm PST. The disc will be sold for $35 plus $5 for shipping, they are hand signed and numbered by Emek, edition of 130.

thanks for the heads up on this, i play disc golf all the time and this would be cool to have. i'm thinking this thing is like pearl jam records, can't just sit there on a shelf gotta spin em.....or throw em as the case may be.if you think what I believe is stupid, bizarre, ridiculous or outrageous.....it's ok, I think I had a brain tumor when I wrote that.0

I guess I'll be needing a new plan0 -
Su, these arent made for catch but you can still play. As a disc golfer, we would play catch while waiting our turn to throw. As long as you don't whip it at someone you should be fine. It only hurts if you can't catch it, don't stop it. None of my discs are signed or numbered though. I do have one my friend hand dyed though it has the Pink Floyd hammers on it. lost the other one he made me with the Thundercats logo.Alpine Valley - Jun 26, 1998, Alpine Valley - Oct 08, 2000, Alpine Valley - Jun 21, 2003

Maybe i could knock the dreamcatcher outta the tree in Pier Park. I would at least love to smack a few trees with this one!0

these are INSANE! Very stoked the project came together, glad to see people like them, lots of money going to charity
I believe these go up around 6PST TODAY, and there are less than 50 for sale.
If you sign up for an account on the site(mailing address, etc, don't need CC info) I believe you will have a MUCH better chance. These will oversell, so be VERY FAST!0 -
i thought it was gonna be hard to get one with 130 on sale, but with only 40 going on sale.....fingers crossedif you think what I believe is stupid, bizarre, ridiculous or outrageous.....it's ok, I think I had a brain tumor when I wrote that.0
