I've always had a soft spot for Green Day...there were my first favorite band when I was 12-13 years old. I liekd most of their stuff up to American Idiot...like you said, didn't care much for 21st Century. They tried way too hard to make another American Idiots. Should be interesting to see how these 3 albums go...

Personally I am a huge Green Day fan, couldn't really say there is even one album of theirs I dislike!!! And Green Day is obviously don't belong to the worst live act league - FACT.
But I couldn't even name any double/triple cds that had not got lots of fillers, lacklusters...and I DID NOT forget about albums such as The Wall, Mellon Collie, The White Album, Use Your Illusion I-II., Mesmerize/Hypnotize, The Fragile, In Your Honour - just to name a few in my collection.
So, I have low hopes about this project in spite of the fact they have always nailed it imho. :?

  • Is this going to be like when kiss released four albums, one for each member of the band?

I don't know why people are shitting on their live show. I saw them for the first time in 2010 and thought the show kicked ass. Great performers, a long show (definitely over 2 hours), pulled people up on stage, awesome crowd interaction. I was very impressed!

I agree that all of them have material that wouldn't be on a standard album, but I think that's part of the draw of a double album.

The Wall...Given the concept and the fact that several themes pop up a few times throughout the album, I think it makes it really unique/great in terms of a rock album. Quadrophenia sorta has the same thing going

UYI I and II- Love how the kept the more Appetite-esque stuff mixed with the more epic pieces. There are a couple songs that are sound-a-likes, but the only tune I think isn't deserving of an album spot is My World.

White Album-Way too much for a single, not quite enough for a double.

I fully agree about In Your Honor...Not even enough good stuff for a single album, let alonge a double.

Mesmerize/Hypnotize-I dig most of their stuff and this is no exception. I think it gets a bad rap with Malakian doin' quite a bit of singing.

Plenty of great double albums out there though

    Physical Graffiti
    Exile On Main St.
    Southern Rock Opera
    Quadrophenia
    Fillmore East
    Before the Frost/Until the Freeze

Now I just have to ask.....What the hell are Green Day thinking trying to pull it off?

Never been a huge fan. I like Dookie and then the singles from their other albums. I'm sure their die-hard fans will snap this up but not a lot of casual ones.
