For those who went to all three tours (98,00,03) which one was the best?
I would pick 1998... living in the midwest and having two Alpine shows, Chicago. St. Louis, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Minneapolis, and pretty much everywhere else takes the cake for me!
But I also loved 2000 and 2003 city locations and venues. Miss those days.
Oh well... at least I live in Wisconsin and get a show at Alpine for the next few years and live 2 hours north of Chicago.

Do you know what it's like to fall in the mud and get kicked... in the head... with an iron boot? Of course you don't, no one does. It never happens. Sorry, Ted, that's a dumb question... skip that.

Hard to just pick one yr but i liked the band the best in 98 ....Just the way Ed was then compared to now ...jesus greets me looks just like me ....0

wow, I don't know, there's something I liked about all of them
but the Yield tour in 98 was amazing
but I really don't knowDon't come closer or I'll have to go0 -
I liked 2000. The Saratoga show blew my mind. But I predict the 2013 tour will blow them all away.

'98This show, another show, a show here and a show there.0

i didn't see any shows in 98 but i have listened to quite a few boots, well over 15. I think all of the shows were excellent and I adore most of the setlists, but the band wasn't close to as tight as they were in 03.
in all honesty, if you plop a box of every show from all of those years in front of me, my fingers will gravitate towards the 2000 European tour.i have a paper here that entitles me to fast track status0 -
I saw 'em on each of these tours---here's my take:
1998---The band was ferocious, especially Eddie...still had the '90's vibe...and being Matt's first tour with the band he was extremely powerful
2000---They were extremely tight musically...EXTREMELY TIGHT!
2003---Incredible variety in the set-lists, band in great spirits, and just about as tight musically as the 2000 tour...the '90's "angst" had changed over to a mature band who were clearly happy to be doing what they do
I have loved all the shows/tours I've seen---they're just different is all.0 -

I only experienced the Euro tour in 00 and granted it was the first leg, but I did experience the US tour in 03 and IMO they were way tighter in 03 as the previous poster said.My PJ shows:

1998 tour was a lot of fun because they were promoting YIELD. Ed was still a little pissed off at the world...very enjoyable shows.
2000, for me, felt like a dark cloud remained after Roskilde. Good tour, but terrible circumstances surrounding things. Very somber atmosphere...especially earlier US shows. However, I saw them in Memphis and it remains one of my favorite shows.
2003 was great. The inclusion of the bootlegs and downloads really had me vested in all of the shows.
Honestly, I enjoyed the tours before 2006...back when they announced everything at once instead of the sporadic listings.

I've been a Pearl Jam fan for 20 years, but lately I've been listening to many of the 1998 boots for the first time. All I can say is: Wow. The complete shows sound much, much better than the stitched-together Live On Two Legs. Highlights for me: Seattle, Melbourne, Inglewood and Mansfield.
Brain of J *and* Faithfull *and* In Hiding every night? Are you kidding me! I would love to get some official bootlegs from this '98 tour and also more '94 shows than just Atlanta and Boston.
I really love the 2000 tour as well. Saw them for the first time that year, and I also believe Binaural is the band's most underrated album. While this tour is strong, the only advantage it has on 1998, in my opinion, is the expanded setlists with Binaural songs (well, and Last Kiss, I guess).
I don't find myself going back to the 2003 shows nearly as often because Riot Act, to me, represents a low point for the band. Give me Binaural or Yield or Vs. (Or Avocado or Backspacer.)08.06.2000 • Greensboro

after watching a bunch of youtube vids from the 98 tour...wow.....Ed sounds downright ferocious on that tour....would love some official boots of some of the shows.....
saw em in NOLA on the 2000 tour ..bootleg sounds great...show was good but was shortly after Roskilde...not alot of energy at the concert from the band..understandable tho...just glad they were there
theres some great 2000 boots - saratoga, detroit, verona, chicago, etc
2003 tour was excellent too..saw them in NOLA that year too...great show...ALOT of energy from the band that night..excellent boot as well...they played alot of rarities that tour...i remember they brought back "deep" and some others that werent played much since early 90s
hard to say which is best..woulda loved to seen em in 98 tho0 -
first pj show i ever saw was buffalo '03. the best concert i've ever been to. i listened to boots from all three, but i've gotta go with 2003 even if it sounds a bit biased. check out that setlist from buffalo. AMAZING!0

I would vote for the '98 Tour. Even though my favorite shows I've seen are Boise 2000 and Gorge 2005, my favorite tour is still the '98 tour.
My first show I saw PJ at was lolla '92. I wasn't too familiar with the band at that point and barely remember them. By '97 I was a pretty big PJ fan. The '98 tour was the first real tour I saw them play. The vitalogy tour sort of imploded. The No Code tour wasn't very big. I think the Yield tour was the first big tour in a long time. Alot of people were seeing the band for the first time.
That year I did a cross-canada trip and we didn't think we would make it back for the Vancouver show. We started by taking a detour to Missoula to catch that PJ show. It was pretty awesome. The mosh pit was friendly. There was this cool hill behind the stadium that people who didn't get tickets could sit on. It had a super cool vibe. Missoula flooded the day before from a big rainstorm. We ended up getting back to Vancouver 2 days before the Vancouver show. We decided to hold up in Kamloops for a few days.. drove into Vancouver the day off the show, as we were going through hope, the radio station announced more tickets had been released. We pulled off, found a pay phone, and scored some sweet beside the stage tickets.
Then I got home after having drove to Newfoundland and back for 5 weeks. What's the first thing I do the next day. I go to my little brother. Do you want to go to Seattle? Before I knew it we raced to the ticketmaster box office in Victoria. Grabbed a pair of tickets. The girl said we'd never make it. We jetted for the next ferry, and bolted for seattle. We literraly got into the stadium 5 minutes before PJ took the stage. Another epic adventure and show! I should also note that it seemed like terrific weather for all the shows that year.
The 2000 tour was good too, but that cloud hung over it from the accident in Europe. I got to see the beginning and end of the tour. The Vancouver 2000 show at the Commodore was pretty sweet (you wouldn't believe how hard I tried to win tickets for that show). Then we saw the last 4 shows of the tour. Portland, Boise, and Seattle x2. I don't think Boise was originally in our thoughts. They cancelled the portland show and let us transfer the 10c tickets to another show. Boise was the next closest. Later on they resurrected the Portland show but we opted to go to Boise anyways since it fell between the portland/seattle shows. I'm glad we did. It was one of the best PJ shows I've ever seen. The band was into it, the crowd was insane. When we were at the 2nd seattle show a few nights later. It really felt like they were trying recapture the magic of the Boise crowd, but couldn't quite get there.
The '03 shows weren't quite as epic for me. I went with my brother to see the '02 warmup shows at Key Arena in Seattle. The 10c tix were by lottery for night 1. We scored row 5 dead centre. We were pretty stoked. To this day those are the best tickets I've ever had to a PJ show (Row 6 in Boise being 2nd). The '02 shows were good, but from my experience, PJ is usually much better at the end of a tour then the beginning. Luckily they stopped in Vancouver in May, and that was decent as well.
I guess I don't find the riot act tour as memorable. The '05 tour really rings out in my memory. I went to the Gorge '05/Vancouver '05 shows. We also bought Tom Petty tickets for the gorge. So we drove to the gorge from Victoria, drove back up to Vancouver for the PJ show, then back to the gorge for Tom Petty.. lol! The PJ shows were awesome that year! From my point of view, the '05 tour is my 2nd favorite next to '98.0 -
They are equally good-just in different ways.0

the best tour ever maybe was nirvana/pearl jam/ red hot chili peppers. i mean really all 3 of those bands in the same arena in 1 night that must of been crazy, too bad i was 8 back then and didnt even knw how any of those bands were and not old enough for a concert back then, and nirvana is not around no more
although i guess pj can go on tour with rhcp and add in at the drive in or foo fighters or something and it be alright

Huh...you always read about Seattle II 2000 being one of the handful of greatest Pearl Jam shows ever (dating back to the days before everyone seemed to have a chip on their shoulder about needing to convince everyone that whatever show they attended was the greatest ever), but I have never heard Boise 2000 mentioned. I don't doubt you, especially since your attendance record speaks for itself. Kinda reminds me of when everyone was wetting themselves about Chicago 98, and later New York II 98, and there were a handful of people who had attended both of those shows (and more) suggesting Minneapolis 98 was just as good, if not better, than every other night on that tour. I like hearing little opinions/nuggets like that...great shows that seem to have been forgotten in the course of Pearl Jam's live history having been rewritten over the years by people who weren't there in the first place.0
