Johnny Depp has teamed up with his rocker pal Marilyn Manson to record a cover of Carly Simon's "You're So Vain."
Depp offered his services for the collaboration, playing drums and lead guitar, while Manson provided vocals for the tune. The song will appear as a bonus track on Manson's upcoming album, "Born Villain," and Depp's 9-year-old son, Jack, was also reportedly on hand in the studio to help out.
Manson tells MTV News, "(We wanted to do) a cover of a song which we thought was ironic for each other. ... He played drums and lead guitar, and I played guitar and sang. It's a bonus track on my new record, and the video will probably be us looking at each other in a mirror."
It's not the first time Depp's rock credentials have gone down on record. He contributed guitar to Oasis' 1997 album "Be Here Now."

I'd be interested in seeing the video for this. They could have some fun with it.Peace, Love.

Can't wait for Manson's new record. I'm seeing him in Providence in April, should be a great show.0

How ironic that he's decided to cover You're So Vain. A song in which Trent Reznor ripped off lyrics from for a song he wrote about Marilyn Manson.
Is MM still going to be doing the Satanist I'm so evil schtick? That was so 1990s and will be met with a collective yawn today.0 -
I'm not sure I'll be checking this out, unless I happen to come across it on TV or something then I might watch. But I'm not interested enough to seek it out.
Johnny Depp: I think he's a fine actor, but even though Keith Richards jams with his band from time to time, I'm not really interested in his music. Seems like most actors think they are musicians, and while Johnny has a lot more musician cred than say Bruce Willis or somebody like that, I still find myself not really caring about his off-screen activities.
Marilyn Manson: I loved Antichrist Superstar and Mechanical Animals, but I never really got into him beyond that. I've heard some of his earlier stuff and some of his later stuff, and none of it ever moved me to the point of buying another album. My MM discography consists of those 2 albums, and will probably stay that way.
So while it's certainly an interesting combo, I'm not really on the edge of my seat. If the source material were a little better I might be more interested, but I hate You're So Vain. So I don't find myself excited about it from that angle either. And a music video of Johnny Depp and Marilyn Manson looking at each other in the mirror doesn't do much for me either.
It might be really good, but on paper it doesn't really interest me. We'll just have to see I guess."See a broad to get dat booty yak 'em, leg 'er down, a smack 'em yak 'em!"0 -
Marilyn Manson is a washed up old cliche.
Antichrist Superstar is the best album by far - a lot of that thanks to Trent Reznor's work on it.
Portrait of an American Family is the second best, followed by Smells Like Children for me.Wembley 2000 • Reading 2006 • Paris 2006 • Wembley 2007 • Shepherds Bush 2009 • Manchester 2009 • O2 Arena 2009 • Hyde Park 2010 • Arras 2010 • Manchester 2012 • Manchester II 2012 • Leeds 2014 • Milton Keynes 2014 • Amsterdam 2018 • Amsterdam II 2018 • London 2018 • London II 2018 • Hyde Park II 2022
