Just heard this on PJ Radio. It's pretty awesome! Not sure about the burping; I guess that's what dicks do when they sing songs ... Mudhoney cover with a twist. Just wanted to share in case people haven't heard it. :)

You're welcome (but thank PJ Radio - never would have heard it otherwise!) ... But I do think that sounds like Eddie, just doing his punk thing (and I'm quite sure it is him, or else it wouldn't be a Mookie Blaylock session, would it? :) ... unless you're thinking it's Stone, or... ? Sounds like EV to me, I think ... but with someone else, and being weird. Have no idea who that other person is. If anyone does, please tell!.

  • I personally don't think it sounds anything like Ed. He might be doing back up vox or something, but definitely not lead.

I can hear him, but yeah, there definitely seems to be someone else in there at LEAST sharing the lead vocals. Wish I knew who! I just read a couple things online, and there is plenty just saying it's Mookie Blaylock - no mention of someone else singing. Assuming it must be another band member. Or maybe Ed was just trying something different?

Some of you might be interesting in this link. There is a list of all the songs they did during their first demo as Mookie Blaylock... if anyone can come up with where to find any of the other songs and let us know, that would awesome.

If you search enough you can come up with these things... Just discovered Daddy Could Swear, I Declare. Another new one to me. I was so busy checking out all the rare bootlegs, I never even got around to old demos!

Thanks, this is something I didn't already have!
  • Matt Dillon said something in an interview back when Singles came out about having had to sing for his character. Since he didn't sing in the movie I always kinda wondered about that. Now I wonder if maybe that's him.

It did to me too at first ... until others put doubt in my mind, lol. Now I'm back to thinking he was just trying something different (but there IS someone else joining in) .... I think if it was Matt Dillon we'd be able to find something about it on the internet.

According to what I found, this is in fact pearl jam (Mookie Blaylock demos) covering the old song of ed's. :) confirmed independently that they did indeed do that, and this does seem to be that version. I should have clarified when I posted it.

Okay... how come it's listed in the M.B. sessions recorded on Oct. 22, 1990 then? Nit that I don't believe you, but why would they do that?

It was a tape filler on the 10/23 tape-actually sounds nothing like the rest of the tape.

Personally I think it sounds like it was recorded along w/ wishing well as they kind of sound alike. But I know Jessica did her research on that article. I know PJ also played owner of a lonely heart early on too. Think Krusen said that in an interview when ten redux came out.

That does sound like Ed hitting some high notes. I think it is him showing his vocal range, trying to sound like Mark Arm.

No, I don't think so. There are several articles and other sources etc that specifically mention it. Including ones discussing the connection with Citizen Cane and how it lead to Mudhoney's song which lead to MB's song. Not to mention the fact that it's listed in a definitive setlist of an MB session. also, I think you can tell it's them by listening. :)
