I'll tell you a story that a patient told me yesterday.
'I was a teenager during the war. We never had many clothes, so we used to make a lot ourselves. I'd been going to a dance on Saturday nights and there was a lad that I really wanted to ask me to dance, so I set about making a lovely black dress to try and entice him. Well I went to the dance the next Saturday night wearing my new black dress, as the night wore on he came over and asked me. I had hoped for a slow dance but it was quite an energetic one, but at least I was dancing with the man I wanted. We twirled around and he grabbed my arm, then he stopped dead in his tracks holding the sleeve of my black dress in his hand. I'd been in such a rush to get the dress finished that I'd run out of time and only tacked the sleeves on.
He never asked me to dance again, I think he was shy.'
I had a cassette player in my car until 2 years ago.
