Hey foxymophandlemama that's me- very disturbing, in my opinion, of course, kind of the point of it, but still....
Corduroy- it doesnt wow me, for some reason...maybe if i find out the reason behind the lyrics, I might change my mind... anyone knows?

wow I have to admit it. I hate backspacer. have listened to it maybe 3 times, just cant get my head around it. And there are some gems, I really do like unthought known, can really relate to a path cut by the moon, love that shit. the end is ok. I just find the album as a whole shallow, and that is so not p.j. I love them, I have them in my skin (litterally, tattooed) Ummm cant even think of anymore....lack of time spent listening??..or abundance of whisky spent drinking?? maybe both. who cares. still love them.
  • i was just listening to the 02' seattle boot and i skipped 'nothing as it seems' i love that song with a vengeance! but i guess it just wasnt up for it  either that or 'you are' was next and haven't heard that song in yonks

....but besides the occasional 'not in the mood' skips i love all of them, even the end of vitalogy i rekon theres a really interesting 'errie'ness to them.... i seen alot of 'stupid mops' on this thread..... i can understand where you coming from

There is not a single song I always skip because some of my favorites are songs I didn't care for at first and I want to give them all a chance to grow on me. Some of my long-term favorite songs are ones I didn't like at first and some of the songs I did like right out of the gate are lower on my list. For example, I didn't care for "Save You" for a long time and now it's very high on my list of favorites.

I was like that with "Insignificance," "Last Exit" and "All Those Yesterdays" for a long time and now they're three of my favorites I can't get enough of, ever.

Even flow, Jeremy and the newer live versions of immortality.

The first 2 because I've heard them 1/2 a million times. Immortality because they won't end the damn song. The jam is way too long.

Wow. I just found this thread and it made me sad in my soul. I saw a lot of Stupid Mop on there which doesn't surprise me but some of the others I find staggering. There are songs listed on these 11 pages that I figured were the reason people WERE Pearl Jam fans.

90% of the people I know who "don't like" Pearl Jam don't like them because they hear songs like Alive, Jeremy, Even Flow, etc. on the radio and assume that those are the only sort of songs that Pearl Jam has. To those people, I play songs like In Hiding, Sleight of Hand, Off He Goes, Nothing As It Seems and say these are the songs that make Pearl Jam - the stuff you never hear on the radio. The stuff the true fans listen to. Don't get me wrong, I still love Alive, et al: Ten is my all-time favourite album and I wouldn't be a fan of this group if it weren't for Jeremy but there are certainly better songs than these that I listen to on a more regular basis. To say I skip anything (with the possible exception of Stupid Mop - and there are even days that I'll give that a go) is almost like slapping Eddie in the face. I just can't do it.

    agreed, man.

I totally agree. also, I believe albums are meant to be listened to as a whole piece of art and it's sort of irreverent to skip songs. Maybe that's not realistic, but it's how I feel.

I don't know how to completely explain it, but PJ albums are hard for me to listen to the first time I hear them. I don't really start enjoying them until I've listened to the album 5-10 times and if I skipped songs in the beginning, I would never know if I liked that song or not. Some songs aren't my favorites at first but I grow to appreciate them after a few years due to my perspective, experiences and mood. That would never happen if I skipped songs. PJ songs don't have that "hook" that commercially successful songs have - their music and lyrics are more complex and appeal to more discerning ears, such as ours. MY POINT IS, REVISIT THOSE SONGS YOU'VE BEEN SKIPPING!

Why would you skip a song? That's like looking at the Mona Lisa if she had no eyeballs...

To those who ask "why would you skip a song?" or are making judgments on the people who've listed tracks they skip - get over yourselves! Maybe YOU like 100% of every piece of material that PJ has ever produced, but not everyone is like you. It doesn't make anyone an untrue fan if there's a few songs they don't like.

my thoughts exactly. I laughed pretty loud and blew a booger outta my nose when I read your post. Nearly hit the monitor actually
These two posters do not like "Evacuation." It happens to be one of my favorites. One man's trash is another man's treasure. As previously mentioned, I don't like "The End." I think it's complete shit. But I know many, many people in here give it tons of praise.

We're all entitled to our own tastes and there's no need to pass judgment on what anyone else likes or doesn't like.

Brain of J., and Hey Foxymophandlemama, That's Me.

Betterman is for me a reference to a time in my life. I don't think it necessarily means she settles. She can still find in herself the strength and boldness she has but she has being leaving aside as time passes. For me it is a recognition.

I don't listen to any album/studio song anymore.
Just because every live version is better for me.
I'm skipping mostly "Alive" and "Evenflow". In my opinion they lost their power compared to the old time till '94 and heared them way to many times. Almost every concert.
Also skipping most of "Backspacer" songs just like "Speed of sound" "The end" "Johnny Guitar" "Supersonic" "Just Breath".
They never kicked in for me. :|
Love "Force of nature" but they play it rarely.
