The Fixer, the worst song, in my opinion.

Wow. I just found this thread and it made me sad in my soul. I saw a lot of Stupid Mop on there which doesn't surprise me but some of the others I find staggering. There are songs listed on these 11 pages that I figured were the reason people WERE Pearl Jam fans.

90% of the people I know who "don't like" Pearl Jam don't like them because they hear songs like Alive, Jeremy, Even Flow, etc. on the radio and assume that those are the only sort of songs that Pearl Jam has. To those people, I play songs like In Hiding, Sleight of Hand, Off He Goes, Nothing As It Seems and say these are the songs that make Pearl Jam - the stuff you never hear on the radio. The stuff the true fans listen to. Don't get me wrong, I still love Alive, et al: Ten is my all-time favourite album and I wouldn't be a fan of this group if it weren't for Jeremy but there are certainly better songs than these that I listen to on a more regular basis. To say I skip anything (with the possible exception of Stupid Mop - and there are even days that I'll give that a go) is almost like slapping Eddie in the face. I just can't do it.

    agreed, man.

I have heard every album/bootleg version of every song ever, and there is only one i skip- evacuation ;) however it's evenly balanced because it's one of my sisters ultimate favourites . i understand the above comment about how some of the songs i hold closest have been slammed in the above comments, but then songs like dirty frank arent just for everyone ... yet..... right place right time, every song hits the spot. maybe this is the year of evacuation . if they play it at the manchester gig i'll take it as a sign it was meant to be :)

There are some quirky PJ songs (Gremmie, Whale Song, Sweet Lew) but the only one I skip 100% of the time is Stupid Mop. It really is kind of disturbing. :?

Poor Immortality, stuck all by itself with Stupid Mop on one side of the second disc on the Vitalogy legacy vinyl.

    Oh, I've got one more:
    Bu$hleaguer

People skip songs for different reasons, I don't think there's anything disrespectful about that. I'd be more worried if everyone here claimed to love every song... PJ fans can actually think for themselves, unlike some people I've come across on the internet (especially in communities where most people are under 30).

Indifference, not that I don´t like it, but I get kind of depressed when listening to it. And then ... Sweet Lew  . Sorry Jeff Ament! (I think he wrote it?) But you´ll never know ... sometimes it takes me a while to really GET a PJ song ... like "I got shit", I used to skip that. Then I read the lyrics and it was like an explosion inside of me. Then I couldn´t stop listening to it. And now it´s one of my top ten PJ songs

I know what you mean. There have been songs that I haven't liked at all. I don't know what happens, but I just start to feel like I need those songs in my life, and they become my favorite songs.

Same with bands, sometimes I "hate" a band, and a couple of years later I realize that they're not that bad after all..... (just don't ask what bands).

Don´t ask me either .. about what bands I mean ...  ;)

Do the evolution used to be a song that I skipped ... until now, when I suddenly realize the awesomeness of it  :-D And I love that about Pearl Jam. Their music is not attacking you, it´s up to you to explore it, travelling around in the PJ universe ... and THEN, the music attacks you, but by then you want to be attacked ... and your life changes :D

I want to love it ...for whatever reason I just can't get into it :?
  • I do agree that there are songs that you might not like until you hear them live. I know my cousin used to really dislike Whipping until he heard it at Calgary '05. As soon as you hear a song live, it makes a world of difference.

I know I always found Sweet Lew a bit odd and then saw Jeff sing it at MSG '10 and now I turn it to 11 every time it comes on.
  • The filler stuff are the only tracks I ALWAYS skip. Pry to, Bugs, Aye Davanita, Stupid Mop, Red Dot

As for songs that I sometimes pass up...Spin the Black Circle, Habit, Mankind, Around the Bend, God's Dice, Rival, Ghost, Get Right, Help Help, Bushleaguer, Inside Job, Supersonic

If You Like Crunchy Guitar Riffs, Powerful Vocals, Melodic Guitar Solos, And Meaningful Lyrics..then you need to check out one of the most refreshing new hard rock bands in quite some time...-->The Liberty Underground<--

There is not a single song I always skip because some of my favorites are songs I didn't care for at first and I want to give them all a chance to grow on me. Some of my long-term favorite songs are ones I didn't like at first and some of the songs I did like right out of the gate are lower on my list. For example, I didn't care for "Save You" for a long time and now it's very high on my list of favorites.

Oh, that´s the same for me. I always skipped Save you, but now it´s one of my absolute favorites! But I love that about PJ, some of their songs take a while to really get into.

I remember when I first heard "Evacuation" that I thought, "Whaaaaaaaat in the heck is this?? It's kinda ... .just... .it's junk! I'll skip this song everytime I hear it!" and to this day, 10 years after hearing it for the first time I still GIVE it a chance, but really... can't come to terms with it.
And no offence Stone... you're singing stinks. You're still in the greatest band ever in my opinion, but since when does one's opinion really matter.. they usually just piss people off, like I probably have done to a few of you reading this now. and now.... and.... now. and now? pissed off yet? are ya? i am... i mean really, a rant after bashing a PJ song... who's the one who started this thread? ya.. not me. (all in fun PJ fans)
