It's been quite a while (ok, years, actually) since I've poked my head through this particular door. Where have ABook and El Kabong (my fellow Tool fan) gone to?

dont know what happened to Abook but ElK morphed into pepe silvia. last we heard he got married and moved houses. so i guess hes eyeball deep in domestic bliss and an actual life. 8-)

Ah, thank you! I haven't (yet) spoken with his new incarnation but I do hope he's well.

    (and hopefully done morphing)

just heard this on the radio at work.. have not listened to this cd in 5 years or so...gotta dig that one out at some point...

Got a box full of letters,
Think you might like to read
Some things that you might like to see,
But they're all addressed to me

Wish I had a lotta answers,
'Cause that's the way it should be
    For all these questions,
    Being directed at me

I just can't find the time
    To write my mind
The way I want it to read

    You'll come back again
And I'll still be your friend

I got a lot of your records,
    In a separate stack
Some things that I might like to hear,
But I guess I'll give 'em back

    I wish I had a lotta answers,
'Cause that's the way it should be
    All these questions
    Being directed at me

    Just can't find the time
    To write my mind
The way I want it to read

    You'll come back again,
And I'll still be your friend

    I can't find the time
    To write my mind
The way I want it to read

    Just can't find the time
    To write my mind
The way I want it to read

I think Thom is one of those with a voice not necessarily considered "good", but damned honest - from the soul. Kinda like Shannon Hoon's, in a way. It either resonates or not.

    Both do with me.

My falling-for-them moment was upon first hearing OK Computer, well after it was released (as has happened with much of my beloved music).

It's amazing how much time love saves you at first
When you rediscover your reason to work
And your aimless dreaming has found a target and
You normalize and greet all function returned

Came home early, a quarter to two
I don't need more wine, I'm coming for you

We carry pictures in our pretend wallets
Of ourselves in heavily edited seventies
With better handwriting and longer days at the park
And dinners with no drama, the Professor, and Mary Ann

Came home early, a quarter to two
I don't need more wine, I'm coming for you

    When I was young
I didn't know if I was better off asleep or up
    Now I've grown up
I wonder what was that world I was dreaming of?

    When I was young
I didn't know if I was better off asleep or up
    And I've grown up
I wonder what was that world I was dreaming of?
What was that world I was dreaming of?
What was that world I was dreaming of?

    Late summer return
Airless apartment I lean out the window
    Deals on irregular shirts
Same fright delight as last year more so

    When I was young
I didn't know if I was better off asleep or up
    Now I've grown up
I wonder what was that world I was dreaming of?
What was that world I was dreaming of?
What was that world I was dreaming of?

    Now I've grown up
I wonder what was that world I was dreaming of?
What was that world I was dreaming of?
What was that world I was dreaming of?

  • I just unearthed this:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xzZBabm

It includes clips from the movie "The Fountain" looks like an interesting movie.

    Secret Separation

    We are passengers in time
    Lost in motion, locked together
Day and night, by trick of light
But I must take another journey
We must meet with other names
Mmm, we must meet with other names

You touched my heart so deeply
You rescued me now free me
Don't watch me cry just see me go
I'll take away the strongest feelings
    you will ever know

    (chorus)
There will be no more isolation
    in our secret separation
You touched my heart so deeply
    you rescued me
    Now free me

    We are passengers in time
    Lost in motion, locked together
Day and night, by trick of light
But I must take another journey
We must meet with other names
If you hold me you will hurt me
    Be brave

    (chorus)

We are matching spark and flame
    caught in endless repetition
Life for life we'll be the same
I must leave before you burn me
I am the stranger who deserts you
    only to love you
    in another life

    (chorus)

    I'll bear one precious scar
    that only you will know
    Passengers in time, free me

    (repeat 4x to fade)

One of those comforting memories that has stayed with me...more than ten years ago, on the old incarnation of this board, I remember listening to and posting about this song late at night - Nothingman, Milan 2000.

Kat! I think you were there that evening, along with PJMom. It was a night much like this...peaceful. Tonight, soft rain, and candle-lit.

Those voices in unison - "once divided" (ironic, I know) - still gets me....right here.

One of the many beloved Georges for which our kitty was named.

So perfect for this sleepy Sunday morning...the sun keeps shining through the clouds.

    Dig that beard!
  • I posted on that vid about George looking for his sunshine in the audience before he starts the song.
