Wow, what a story!dankind wrote:Thanks for doing this, Dimi.
The first time I heard "Alive" in 1991, I felt like I was hearing a painful chapter of my life story set to the awesome music for which I had been waiting. (I mean, acts such as Wilson Phillips, Amy Grant, Nelson, New Kids on the Block, Extreme, Color Me Badd, and so on were dominating the airwaves; it was truly a dark time for rock and roll.)
I'll explain. I was told at a very young age that my biological father had died while I was still a newborn. (He and my mother had already split up.) As the years went by, I learned that my mother received this news from a less-than-reliable source -- namely, a rival for her affection -- so I became more skeptical of the story and more hopeful that he was still alive. The story was still somewhat believable because he had a severe form of Type 1 diabetes as a juvenile and wasn’t supposed to live past age 18, but I had this shred of circumstance on which to hang my faith. So, when I first heard Eddie Vedder sing the chorus, the 16-year-old me always imagined it as my dead/missing father singing/pleading to me that he was still alive. (A misinterpretation, I know, but that’s how I heard it.)
We tried searching for him and his family members a few times in the early 1990s but always hit a wall. Then, in 1998, I got a call from my mother -- she and my grandmother had found him. Not only had they found him but he was living 45 minutes away from where I was living at the time (Sarasota, Florida) in the town of my birth/conception (St. Petersburg, Florida), no less!
He was still alive!
There is so much more to the story, but I have bored y'all for long enough.

Love the idea you have!!!
Not sure if this is what you are looking for but here it goes . . . .
I went to hawaii in 2006 to see the last 2 shows of the avocado tour, the shows were a week apart so between the two shows my buddy and i went to the north shore to watch kelly slater surf on sunset for the world surfing competition. It was so unreal, the waves, the weather, the people, just a great place to be. After kelly had finished his set my buddy and i got up and decided to walk around a bit. Maybe 30 seconds after we got up my buddy taps me on the shoulder and says eddie is walking towards us down the beach, i looked up and there was ed with his daughter and wife(then gf) and no bodyguards. We calmly walked over to him and extended our hands to give him a friendly shake. He was really cool and laidback and you could tell he appreciated the gesture of shaking his hand and not snapping pics like idiots etc. We talked about the first show and what to expect from the second show(they opened for U2) we said we came here from winnipeg and he smiled and liked that but the thing that stuck with me the most was when i asked if we could get some pics with him he looked at me and said so genuinely and cool, yes for sure, im just going to go say hi to some friends and ill come back.
It was like a wave hit me of how cool and down to earth and powerful this guy eddie vedder really is!! His eyes looked right into mine and was so calm and genuine, really cool guy. We waited for ten minutes and most artists you would expect not to come back but he ran over to me and my buddy and took several pics on the beach with us, gave us hugs and shook our hands goodbye!! Surreal experience and hope you enjoyed my long winded story hahaha i have several more from that trip.

Dr Vedder & Mr Eddie
Who is this man? One moment he's strumming a ukulele and softly serenading us, the next he's soaked in sweat, blood pouring from a bad tambourine accident and forcefully screaming lyrics at a couple of less than ecstatic dudes in the front rows....
He has been quoted with the definitive description of what it is to be a taper, a bootlegger, revelling in that first Who show he captured ... and then denies that same experience to those who see his solo shows (or has he? Perhaps he wants people to experience the paranoia of a stealth taping job!)
All stories relate of casual meetings that are genuine and heart-felt, a big show of love for his fans and fellow humans ... but hopes he can show enough anger and derision to drive young republicans out of his shows.
He wrote, "I'm Open" and "Around the Bend" ... and "Blood" and "Leash."
He surfs ... and enjoys ax throwing.
He mocks industry awards ... and displays his Golden Globe onstage.
But let's just back up a moment -- he plays a mean telecaster ... and a ukulele!
There must be some kind of serum for this.[sic] happens0 -

Super sweet. Many thanks for a chance.
It is normal to give away a little of one's life in order not to lose it all.

My brother and I, we flew from Switzerland to Wisconsin just for PJ20.
We had 4 days to make it all fit. We booked a tent site in a campground. We booked the flight, and even a tiny car to drive from Chicago to AVMT.
All good so far. We got ready, decided to split the risk.
I packed the sleeping bags, he packed the tent and the camping stuff.
I got my luggage in Chicago, he didn't. It got lost somewhere in Amsterdam.
The tiny car turned into our house. Add up the crazy heat of the first day, the storm, the temperature drop, the jet lag... We barely slept at all.
But it made everything even more special. More clear. The emotions were intensified.
You know what?
The tiredness would last 2 days at most. The memory of the best weekend in my life will last forever.
That's devotion!
See you around Europe!all hopes abandoned...0 -
I'd love to win a PJ20 poster, I couldn't make it to the big weekend and I would have given anything to have been there. Pearl Jam is my religion and my family xoxo
