It's attainable because we can ask the question if it's attainable.0

Touche. I should be more specific. Humans can question their own behavior, visualize it happening, and make the behavior happen, therefore it's attainable.0 -
No, I don't think it's attainable. I think we can make the world a better place and more peaceful than it is now, but I don't think there will ever be complete peace. You can reallocate wealth and resources, ditch religion, but there will always be something to fight over.
Even if peace was something attainable, I think the rules and laws that would have to be in place to maintain it would be staggering--I think we'd lose much of our freedom in exchange for peace. There are just too many people with individual minds, thoughts, ideas, desires, opinions.
But, who am I to say....0 -

Good points. As the world's population keeps on increasing, it just allows for more and more problems.fife wrote:yes if there was only 1 person living.
or this would work..

There's too many men, too many people
Making too many problems
And not much love to go round
Can't you see this is a land of confusion?

I see. I agree, when it comes to a single individual, the nuclear family or possibly a small group of people. However, I don't think that works in large groups and especially not with the world as a whole. To make that work you need propaganda on a massive scale. I think the way behavior changes is more of a "pull" effect than a "push" in that direction and I don't think that we are conscious of it... I think world peace (or the singularity as I called it earlier) will happen without our even intending it to happen, if it's going to happen at all.Everything not forbidden is compulsory and eveything not compulsory is forbidden. Hugh Freaking Dillon wrote:This is a serious question. Everyone (well, most everyone) dreams of peace on Earth. To my knowledge, it has never happened. There will always be heads of nations who have ulterior motives that do not put the good of humankind first. There are the extreme religions/faiths/etc that feel the need to destroy others as some preemptive measure.
Some wars have been inevitible. WWII for example. We had no choice there but to go to war. How do you deal with those that have evil intentions without going to war? Is it possible?
Has any scholar written anything with significance that can actually feasibly address this issue?
peace will never happen cause mankind has never been peaceful in its entire existence. there will always be conflict.. its the nature of the beast.Post edited by catefrances onhear my name

I remember reading somewhere that Japan once had 700 years of peace at some point in their history. ? True, it's only one country but if this is true, maybe we can learn from it. Does any one here recall hearing this or know anything about it?"It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0

i think the point of world peace is that ALL countries are peaceful with each other and their own people. If you're looking at just a single region, how about most of the native americans? Sure, there were some tribes that were violent, but most were not. Especially when you look at the folks who lived in the Caribbean for THOUSANDS of years before Columbus showed up to make 'em slaves. For THOUSANDS of years those dudes were just smoking grass, riding in canoes, sitting in hammocks, and having orgies. But, at the same time, most of the western europe and the middle east was fucked because of all the slavery and religion wars, so there wasn't world peace.Everything not forbidden is compulsory and eveything not compulsory is forbidden.
