Hi. I will give you my shitty theory -
the windowsill is a metaphor for regret. Looking out the window, at the past. It is a super common image used in art to convey same. So, that is my theory. Any help?www.IamCorrect.com0 -

Its what i love about their songs. Open to interpretation.
For me the window sill is choice... Which way to go? Like being on the fence. Gotta decideRDS Dublin - Aug 26 1995 (Neil Young with Pearl Jam)

Thanks folks, I was thinking along the same lines. Although I'd be interested to know if there has ever been any official meaning from the Band. Cheers0

Thanks for that.
I'm not sure about the contemplation of suicide, maybe just a choice of 'where do I go from here', but what the hell do I know.0 -

ive always thought of it as his dad visiting him as a spirit.. "ill wait up in the dark for you to speak to me" there are more lyrics that point that way if you believe in that sort of thing i spose0
