Milwaukee July 9th '95.... my first PJ concert.... first concert period. I just remember Eddie coming out very early to sing a song with the Frogs, who were the first of two opening bands. He came out in a shiny suit, sunglasses, and a wig... at first nobody knew it was him. Once he started singing people started to realize who it was and the place erupted, at least the lucky ones who were there...It had to only be half full at that time. PJ in their prime...I had goosebumps that whole night and no concert will ever live up to it.

  • Shepherds Bush, London 11th August 09 - After a crazy frenzy for tickets, I managed to snag one. It was unreserved seating upstairs so i queued and queued and got dead center made a couple of friends around me (as i was sitting on my own) and still talk to them from time to time on facebook. Metamorphsisis by Philip Glass came on and the lights went down, the opener was Sometimes and it gave me goosebumps. Nothing compares to PJ live!

8/18/98 - East Lansing was my first show. Wasn't the best show that I"ve seen, only 20 or so songs and closed with Soldier of Love, but an awsome TC member traded me his 4th row tix for our lower bowl tix because he didn't want to take his daughter on the floor. Those are the best seats that I've had and I'll never forget the experience. If you're out there man THANKS!

My first show was Indianapolis 2000, wasnt really into PJ much at the time. I got lucky and won pretty good tickets on the radio for being the 9th caller. My friend had been in the club for a couple of years by then and my seats were better than his and he was pissed. I have been hooked ever since.

March 6th, 1994, (Paramount Theatre in Denver), a make-up show after the November 28th, 1993 (Boulder) show was cancelled. I was 15, and it was my first rock concert. I cheered so loudly that I had no voice for the next 2 days.

I can still picture it, as if I'm sitting there right now. If I think on it, I can feel the butterflies I had as I waited for them to walk on stage.

I still have the $2 in change I had after spending the rest of my money on paraphernalia, the ligher I held up as they opened with Indifference, and the piece of paper on which I wrote everything I could possibly remember about the show after it was over.

The feeling of anticipation I had that night is still as strong as it was then, every time I'm about to see them. I'm really excited to be able to introduce my baby sister to them, after all these years.

1st 10C tix - Oct 22nd, 2000 - When I found out I was in the front row, I nearly barfed, and started shrieking as if I was 13 or something. I apologize to anyone who was within a mile, I must have hurt your ears.

September 11, 2005 Kitchener Memorial Auditorium or as the locales call it, "THE AUD"

My friend's friend works security there, so we were snuck into the side door. He escorted us through the hallways leading my friend and i to the "press boxes" above the crowd. He told us to not yell and scream and to not smoke, because we were not allowed up there. They opened with Long Road. My memory is a little faded, but from what i remember, the ENTIRE show was surreal. Every song was new to me. Gimme Some Truth i will probably never hear again. My only regret is not having a ticket stub from the show. BUT i did manage to get a setlist from that guy that works there.

My advice, just have fun, take lots of photos and soak it all in. It's your virginity, it's prom night. It's the birth of your first born, its a religious experience. ENJOY!

    11/30/1993 - Vegas - Aladdin
Dorm-mates bro worked security - got in and been hooked since. Dissident had "Across The Universe" - SOLT was AMAZING (as was Leash) and they came out in the 2nd encore and did Swallow My Pride. Found out later it was the christening of Tremor Christ, which also happens to be my all time fave...Liked 10, but Vs and this show ignited my PJ flame...
Great show - wish this was a boot :)

Wow I forgot about this thread and I didn't even add mine when it eventually happened.

    Dublin, 22nd June 2010:

After a couple of days exploring the city and meeting up with many new friends along the way we headed down to the 02 Arena with Paul and his lovely wife Susan also from Scotland. A few drinks at the bar and we found our seats for Ben Harper who I was a long time fan of but was also seeing for the first time. I had it in my mind that maybe Ed would come out early to do something with Ben and it passed without his prescence. Ben and R7 were an awesome opening band.

After another drink we were back for PJ and when the lights went down, Philip Glass's Metamorphosis 2 started over the PA, a few silhouettes started appearing around the stage and through a few camera flashes we could see Ed making his way to the mike with his Telecaster. It was starting to become reality and all I needed now was to see what song they would open with after almost twenty years anticipation really hoping for Sometimes but not really caring either way. The crisp opening D chord of Long Road brought a huge cheer and the goosebumps took over for that opening minutes. I'm glad looking back that this was the opener as I'd watched Touring Band so many times and always thought it would be really good to see. I'd anticipated all the songs that I thought I had a really good chance of seeing going by setlists of the past and that particular year and from those I got Why Go, Corduroy, The Fixer, Amongst The Waves, Even Flow, Unthought Known, Got Some, Do The Evolution, Just Breathe, Given To Fly, Porch, Small Town, Betterman, Alive and Yellow Ledbetter. Nice surprises that weren't exactly rare, Once, Severed Hand, Nothingman, Lukin, Not For You and Comatose. And of course songs I didn't expect for my first show, Down, Arms Aloft, Of The Earth and Kick Out The Jams!!

I know to many people here and veterans of many shows they will probably look at the Dublin setlist as being pretty run of the mill but I know they can look back at their first show and know exactly what feelings I experienced that night, there's not another feeling like it. The moment I really came to my senses and felt like I was actually at a PJ gig was five songs in during Corduroy when the quiet break before the solo builds up and Mike sets off to bring it home. The audience noise levels during the show and especially the encores were amazing compared with other gigs I'd attended and being among it all, the singalongs on Why Go, Nothingman, Small Town, Betterman, the euphoria of Alive when the solo starts right to that fist pumping yeahs on the finale like on the Immagine In Cornice DVD, just to be a part of that and then the bittersweet emotion of Yellow Ledbetter to end the show. What can you say until you've been there? It was one of the best nights of my life and I'll never forget how I felt all of that day.

Lucky for me I only had to wait until the next night in Belfast to see Sometimes (my favourite song ever) and to go through it all again. Probably a better show but my first is the one that sticks the most. We attended Belfast and London that week with Paul and Susan and I also went to Berlin with them and their family the next week for the Roskilde 10th anniversary show. An amazing eight days which I still keep reliving with the boots.

This summer I'll be going to see PJ with them again twice in Manchester which is going to be awesome and two weeks later we'll be returning to Dublin for a few days to get married with two special witnesses, Paul and Susan of course who are ending their tour in Stockholm to be with us! I never thought a band could change my life so much and I have many special friends thanks to this forum and going on tour for those eight days. :D

May 29th 2000. Wembley Arena. Of the Girl being my first ever pearl jam song.

I'm not sure I even knew what Yellow Ledbetter sounded like live back then!!

    Seen them 13 times now.
  • My 1st Pearl Jam show was July 14, 1998 at the Great Western Forum, Inglewood,CA They opened up with "RELEASE." Eddie came out in a long black leather trench coat, sang his lungs out on RELEASE, crowd went crazy! It had been the 1st time PJ played in L.A. in 6-7 years, besides having performed the night before. He brought out Johnny Ramone as a Special Guests. They played "The KKK Took My Baby Away." Very awesome show for me ;)

Hey Ernie... let me know if you need that show ;)

August 15, 1992 Lollapalooza. Front Row(for a little while). Had to get pulled out with my cousin, they pulled us on stage in Mike's area and had to exit Stone's side. Walked passed Ed and my cousin and I slapped hands with him. Turns out my first experience live was my best so far. hahahahahaha

I'm sure Ed will never forget it either.:lol::lol:

    More to Come....
  • first gig was in '96 on the no code tour. I think this was either my second or third gig I ever went to, so I was 15 and absolutely psyched to see any live band.

I of course was a massive pearl jam fan and the first song they played was Oceans which threw me on a bit of a tangent. I was young naive and expecting the first song to be a total rager to get everyone going, instead the whole crowd on the floor swayed and sang along and i was a bit confused. They then hit us with the 1,2,3,4 punch of Last Exit, Animal, Spin The Black Circle and Hail, Hail.

Booooooof absolutely amazing, the whole place went up.

It was 10 years until I saw them again and they just got and get better and better. i'm so glad to say I saw them in the 90's when they were still fresh and relatively "new" to this.

  • My first Peal Jam show was in 2005 i was 15 and had already been to many concerts, the show was in September in toronto i got tickets luckily the night of the show because a friend of a friend bailed, my brother convienced me to get the extra ticket since he had tenclub tickets to the show. I went expecting just another regular concert similar to what I'd seen in the past, only this time it was Pearl Jam. I had no idea what i was in for i stood up when the band come on stage along with everyone else in the ACC and no one sat down the whole night!!!!!(i still could'dnt believe the energy this crowd was giving off. let alone the nergy the band was putting into every song) the first song was release, i didnt know many lyrics to any of the songs but none the less iwas blown away by the whole expirence AND I WAS SITTING IN TO NOSE BLEEDS!!!! close to a 3 hour show of perfection!!!! I was hooked....... since i have seen them everytime they have been back excluding 2006. Enjoy the show my friend you are in for one hell of a time!
