    playoffs?

are we gonna do a pool for another $20?

    horos suggested this -

We always do a March Madness style bracket for the NFL playoffs. I don't know if there is a place to do it online. Basically you get one point for picking the Wildcard round, 2 for the Divisional games, 3 for the Conference championship and 6 for the SuperBowl. We make all the picks before the playoffs start.

    my suggestion was this -

    1st playoff weekend = 4 games

    2nd playoff weekend = 4 games

    3rd playoff weekend = 2 games

    super bowl = 1 game

    total of 11 games

most wins against the spread wins..

    but we need a tiebreaker

    i'm thinking something like..

the first game each weekend ( the saturday early game) is the game we use

you have to guess total points scored for the game

we do this each week, as long as there is a mathmatical chance that we would finish with a tie

    any more suggestions?

let's talk it out and see what we like

I'd be down with doing 2 more pools. I like Horos' idea and I also like Ed's idea (minus the ncaa part). I would also suggest picking the final score in both pools to avoid ties - this could be done on the morning before each game.

    20 bucks each pool.

if we are making the picks before the playoffs start, how can we use point spreads?

aren't these kinds of pools just about picking the winners?

I think in Ed's pool, we would bet the spread week to week, just like we've been doing all along. In Horos' pool we would make all of picks before the playoffs start and we would be picking the winners.

Horos' pool idea is tricky due to bye weeks.

I've done a playoff pool before where you rank each playoff team with a value from 1-12. You get that number of points each time that team wins...

example: lets use these as the teams:
    AFC............................ NFC
    1. New England................1. GB
    2. BAltimore...................2. SF
    3. Houston.....................3. NO
    4. Denver......................4. NYG
    5. Pitt..........................5. ATL
    6. Cincy .......................6. DET

So you fill out something like this:
    12: GB
    11: NE
    10: NO
    9: BAL
    8: PIT
    7: SF
    6: NYG
    5: HOU
    4: DEN
    3: ATL
    2: CIN
    1: DET

In week 1 if the wildcard round winners are ATL, PIT, NO and HOU, you get 3, 8, 10 and 5 points for a total of 26
In the divisional round lets say all 4 home teams win, GB, NE, BAL, SF, you get 12, 11, 9 and 7 points for a total of 39 for the week, 65 total
In the title games NE and SF win, you get 11 and 7 for 18 for the week and 83 total
And NE wins the Super Bowl (woohoo), you get 11 for the week and 94 total.

We use total points in the SB as tiebreaker.
You basically want to put 12 points on the team you think will win the SB, you want to make the first week losers values 1, 2, 3 and 4 (but if one of those teams goes on a run you get hurt).

As for a point spread pool, we'd just pick weekly (I would also pick weakly), but we certainly need a tiebreaker with only 11 games there's bound to be a tie, so again I'd assume total SB points would make sense or we could predict how may complaint threads will show up on the porch during the next PJ ticket presale and the closest to that would win the tiebreaker.

Plus an NCAA type pool really can't work since you don't know which team goes where for the divisional round until after wildcard weekend cause they reseed.

If you know how brackets work its easy to get the matchups in the right place. Been doing it for 10 years just like March Madness. I'm down for this or your method.
