The republicans have had mental midget perry, womanizer cain, corrupt newt and flip flopper mitt trading places as their "front runners." IMO, only mitt is even marginally electable....and the dems will kill him on his position changes and the more conservative republicans don't like him either.
the best republican candidate is jon huntsman....and he's polling at about 1%.
really? this is the best we can do??

No, Herman Cain is the best they can do, and he's being smeared Soviet-style as a result.
I wouldn't worry too much, though, if I were a liberal. Mitt Romney will be elected and the Bush1-Clinton-Bush2-Obama agenda will continue without exception.Bristow, VA (5/13/10)0

the best republican candidate is Ron Paul
huntsman is really interesting though...i think the low poll numbers for him, gary johnson, and ron paul show that republicans aren't that interested in actually being conservative, rather they are more interested in sounding conservativethat’s right! I think the options in 2008 were pretty ho hum as well, other than there were Dems thrown into the mix. I used to really enjoy politics, now it just makes me tired.imalive wrote:The republicans have had mental midget perry, womanizer cain, corrupt newt and flip flopper mitt trading places as their "front runners." I'd say the Democratic 2004 presidential candidates were even worse. Even Herman Cain can't touch the scum-baggery of John Edwards. Kerry was the best-of-the-best and he got beat by an unpopular George W. Bush.
Whoever wins the republican nomination (Romney) can use the economy to bash Obama and stands a fair chance to beat him. Obama vs. Romney would be interesting although the GOP would have to ignore the healthcare issue which is like a pitcher losing his curveball.Be Excellent To Each OtherParty On, Dudes!0

not really ignore it...they would just change the issue to a state's rights thing. which isn't nearly as strong an argument because most people don't care about itthat’s right! Can’t we all just get together and focus on our real enemies: monogamous gays and stem cells… - Ned Flanders

My belief is that Mitt Romney is the only candidate that has a chance of beating President Obama in the General Election. But, right now... The Republican party has to deal with their own demons, The Tea Party and the Christian Coalition (which are similar, to a point). That is why the slew of Republican Candidates are all over the map.
Come time for the Republican convention... their electorate will vote for Romney.Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Go Jayhawks!

I am a believer in the idea of how the media will ultimately pick the candidate by swaying popular opinion. Things come out about presidential candidates that would NEVER come out if they were seeking a lesser political appointment. Politics are dirty as hell at this level. People on your side of the aisle tear you apart...whether their accusations are true or not.
Aside from cynicism influencing my belief, I believe independents will decide this election. The hardline conservatives, for the most part, will unite behind the GOP pick out of their sheer hatred for Barack Obama. I do not believe the stories about the Tea Party witholding it's support at large for a progressive like Mitt Romney. They will still show up. The independents (and undecided Dems and Republicans) will rally behind his positions easier than a Michelle Bachmann because the biggest voting block of this nation is still center. Maybe slightly center right, but that's debatable.
I would maintain the position that Barack Obama won in 2008 because his message SEEMED good for the economy and John McCain did nothing to distance himself from George W. Bush, but that's probably because he was no different in the first place.Bristow, VA (5/13/10)0
