Here's the summary of the plan:
"The rich will find their tax bills going down, and the majority of working Americans would find their tax bills going up, quite substantially."
That's really all I need to know.0 -

Yep. I totally agree.0 -
based on my math & personal income projections AND considering that most of my deductions would be wiped out (have not been confirmed by cains' incredibly poorly detailed plan), i would pay more, about $2000 more per year in taxes, i give this plan a big fat fuck you.San Diego Sports Arena - Oct 25, 2000

I think his plan stinks. First of all, you can't say that the sales tax would replace the federal income tax when there would still be a federal income tax. Second of all, we don't even have a sales tax that high in NJ and we have pretty much everything taxed out the ass as it is. I'm pretty sure this plan would result in me having my taxes raised--actually, I'm 100% certain of it since I bought a house this year and have a mortgage that currently will get me a deduction that he wants to eliminate. I'm also pretty sure that adding a 9.1% sales tax to everything I buy on top of a 9.1% income tax will result in me paying more taxes than I do now. This really seems like a stupid plan. The only good thing about it is that it's so unorthodox that the other candidates will have it ripped apart by the time the primaries roll around and the novelty of it will have worn off. He might get support from some of the richer voters who will see an opportunity to lower their own taxes (but then again, wealthy people with large mortgages will lose that mortgage interest deduction, too), but the middle-class Republicans will eventually catch on to the shittiness of this plan.
Also, I agree with what Jason P wrote. Those rates will absolutely go up in the future because Congress refuses to stop spending more than the country has. That's why tax rates are where they are now in the first place. Until there is a Balanced Budget Amendment any changes to the tax code will be like putting a scented candle in a hoarder's house. The stink might be covered up for a little while but the mess is still there.0 -
Those running for President are rich. So 999 works for them and their buds.
This plan banks on the general population thinking it is a change and a flat tax
and that it would be more fair, that doesn't seem to be the case
but could be worked to take the poorest off the board
and not tax essentials only luxury items and allow deductions for middle class families.
999 would probably give Congress another 4 year battle and something to do,
before they scrapped it.
I read the revenue brought in would be much less than it is now
and the government runs in the red
so not much sense in implementing it if it doesn't solve the problem0 -
9-9-9 works for the 1%...all this will do is divide the gap between the rich and the poor even further... the plan has so many holes in it, it's scary...but what's scarier are the people in the 99% that are following this clown...I don't get it...0

he is someone people can relate to.
He knows poor... being a very poor black child who grew up in the Atlanta ghetto,
worked his way up building a good successful business,
had cancer but a few years ago where had little chance to live
yet here he is. A living miracle.
He's got strength in character, a humanness and charisma, a good sense of humor,
accountability and hardline against those using the system and a strong faith in his purpose
in life and in the Presidency.
This is all very attractive, especially after what we have had to choose from in recent years
and those running now.
So for the Republicans in the 99% it might be their best chance to remove Obama.0 -

he also said that "under obamacare, when i caught the cancer i would be dead" which is an out and out lie.. first of all you don't "catch" cancer, and his care would have been expeditied..."You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln

something you find here in the South, most especially born and raised.
And also he is a politician and is using his life experience to work against his opponent....
just words but the message was there.
The miracle part ....many Republicans can relate to that, the devoutly religious
for sure and even those who do not follow a religion but believe in God.
My point though was more the fighter, is attractive... the strength to overcome
and run for office after little chance of survival.
I see why he is well liked.0 -

i like my candidates to be a little less folksy. i like my candidates to speak to me on my level, not below it."You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln

Bush had to pander to the midwestern Republicans, who typically have no higher than a third grade education.
Obama, meanwhile, has to pander to inner city Democrats, who typically have no higher than an 8th grade education.
In reality, both guys are simply interested in lining their own and their associates' pockets.
Meanwhile, you and I are left in the cold. I say, in 2012, nobody votes. That'll send a message.I knew it all along, see?0 -

all the data I could find in a quick google search puts the Midwest's graduation rate higher than any other region...just sayin'...
(full disclosure I live in Minnesota, part of the midwest)
How I feel about it is simple, politicians don't need to talk to people like they are scholars, they just shouldn't treat people like children. Does that make sense?that’s right! Can’t we all just get together and focus on our real enemies: monogamous gays and stem cells… - Ned Flanders
