How truly special are Madison Square Garden shows?..

There's something very indefinable about Pearl Jam playing The World's Most Famous Arena. Seen every show and it's been beautiful every time. The first chord of Long Road in '98 No Code tour with the Garden lights very dark and a bit of "darkness" within the boys at the time was surreal!

  • I've seen 4 shows there, two in '08 and two in 2010.
I prefer the 2010, especially night II... the energy was really over the top... better than Philly 3 IMHO :)

It is a truly awesome arena... too bad I'm moving out of NY in a week :?

Night II 2010 was bone chilling. It was hands down the best concert I've been to in my life and I've been to many great shows. The intangible was the energy in that building. It was more than I've ever seen at a show.

1998 2nd night was relentless. pure brilliance.

2010 2nd night was incredible too. i just wasn't into sweet lew, slow lukin, black red yellow. hate all you want, but i'd love to see any of those replaced by a smile or sleight of hand any day. i'd talk about those longer than i talked about seeing sweet lew.

I've only done 2 MSG Pearl Jam show's (6/24/08 & 6/25/08) and both were amazing!! Love the atmosphere & the history of that place. Hoping someday to be back there again. :)

Did not find any of the shows special. Just the one with the dvd bc Eddie new is was being recorded. Thats why it was good. otherwise, Eddie can not handle the pressure of the garden.

Yeah this one really stood out. I saw the MSG shows in 2003 and 2008 and they were great but they pale in comparison to this most recent one. My seats were upper deck, behind the stage which usually sucks but it was amazing just watching the crowd for this one. Great show.

Ive seen every pearl jam msg show except for 9-11-98, doh!! 9-10-98 was my first pj show ever. I remember buying a bootleg vhs on ebay of the 9-11-98 show a few months later, i wore that out.

My favorite msg show, and actually my favorite show ever, is the dvd show from '03. Never been to a show that had such an amazing vibe as that show. Show started off great but nothing earth shattering, but as it went along the momentum just kept building and building, i remember feeling like the show was really starting to take off with faithfull and wishlist, the crowd was just feeling it and a great tag at the end of wishlist. By the time the encores came with daughter and breath and crown of thorns and crazy mary and sonic reducer and baba, the show had offically reached epic proportions.

There are numerous songs I would have preferred to have heard over Sweet Lew, but the band was having so much fun, and I think most of us fans fed off of that. I have no complaints about song selection that night. They were having the time of their lives and I loved watching it.

haha. riiiighht. i'll put eddie up against reggie miller anyday.

been to them all, and to me, night 2 in 1998 still takes the cake. that was just nuts. "same record, different track.."
i'm more a fan of popular bands.. like the bee-gees, pearl jam

I have seen Green Day, KOL, Muse, U2 and the two PJ shows last year. Every band that I have seen there seems to do great shows, up the ante a bit, play longer. I will be seeing Foo fighters there next month for that reason :D

Exactly what i always think when i think about MSG 2 2010.

I was behind/side stage mike side and to look out over the crowd having a blast was AWESOME!!

Hope to do it again soon.

To have the 2 MSG shows last year be my first 2 Pearl Jam shows, all I can say is WOW. It sure is a treat to have MSG be my hometown venue. I feel like bands really bring it there, and most MSG shows are special. But to see PJ in that venue, especially for the first time for me- just such an incredible, indescribable feeling. Pure joy, pure amazement, pure emotion. Can't wait to do it again soon! I need some more PJ!

NYC has a very artistic vibe, even Eddie at the Beacon was great this summer. Plus the diversity of the crowd in the city at the show is awesome, it's not the same drunk knuckleheads. There were some smokin hot babes at the Eddie shows this summer which is also a rarity at PJ shows. I've always preferred the diverse NYC for all concerts.

I hope the renovated Garden retains the same character. It was my favorite concert venue.. the renovation pics make it look like a typical generic arena... When PJ returns it will be great regardless!!

I've seen four shows there. All of them were great. That venue is awful though. Self-proclaimed world's most famous arena. The old hockey arenas like Maple Leaf Gardens, and Boston Garden were great arenas. I've seen the band at only 8 or so different venues and I really don't get a different/special vibe from a Pearl Jam show because it's at MSG. A great show is a great show, regardless of the setting, especially if that setting is indoors.
