When I turned 40, seeing PJ at MSG was in my bucket list. Thank goodness I turned 40 before May2010. The show the building and the city are all in balance with eachother for a fun ride, if you can handle it.
great venue, sound is perfect..and come on...its in NY....

+1
my first show was at the garden in 2003, i've seen them at some other venues since then but the there is shit that happens at the garden that will only happen at the garden..... it's fuckin magical
It's like when the honey badger takes that cobra into its mouth to smack that pistachio nut. All the passion and anger is completely directed into that one special moment.

:-)
New Yorkers make the Garden a bigger thing then it really is.
Just like Boston fans used to make the Garden a bigger thing then it really is
Just like Philly fans used to make the Spectrum a bigger deal then it really is.
I don't really think the venue can make or break a show, but that is just my opinion. PJ will crush it no matter where they play. Arena, shed, field, theater.......they won't let us down.
I've been to all 3 venues and no one show really stands out that much more then the other.
saw 6 pj shows in the worlds greatest arena. 98 was my first long travel, night 2 was almost as good as the 2nd night 2010.2008 had some killer moments too (ace frehley).
This is not my most coherent post, but whatever. I live in NY and can't say the Garden is a particularly special venue in and of itself at least not for hockey (I've been in Tampa Bay louder) or concerts (the sound isn't great). But it seems that band loves playing there and the fans feed on that, or vice versa. It felt the same to me at the Spectrum shows in that way (though I grew up in the Spectrum and it is special to me). Its the joy of communion. Take Nothingman from MSG 2 or Hartford. Both are amazing live and on boots, but MSG sends chills through me. Or Indifference from MSG 1. Christ. I only wish I'd started seeing the band prior to 2008...

have another drink and try this again...
i post on the board of a band that doesn't exsist anymore .......i need my head examined.......
It was cool the first time have to admit. The floor shaking was amazing. Past the initial wow factor of MSG, I don't think it is any different than any other stadium show.
Now venue aside, Manhattan/NYC is amazing, and getting to see all it offers in addition to a show makes the experience way different than any other.
Crowd: yeah they are loud, but so are crowds in all the other cities I have seen them. I did not find the NYC crowd any better than Chicago's, DC's, Alpine's, Indy's, and from what I can hear on boots Boston's. To be honest I found the crowd in NYC shows was more out of towners than in towners from the people I met at the show/pre-parties.
Set: The band usually brings it for NYC shows, and there are usually nice special guests. They are aware of the aura/history of MSG and I do think they try to play worthy of it.
If you are into the visit them in other places, wanna see them in historical places phase of your PJness then yes you have to see them there, otherwise on a purely show standpoint, not that big of a difference IMO.
I guess it depends on the overall experience you are desiring. For what it would cost me to see them in NYC I can see them 2 times in most other places. I would rather see them twice, than spend 2x the amount of money for everything from food, lodging, gas, bridge/tunnel fees, air fare, tourist traps, souvenirs, etc.
PS stay in Jersey and take the train to MSG, it is half the cost of staying in the city.
Loved both MSG shows I was at, glad I did them, but I feel bar some special show ala pj20, I have no need to go see them there again.

given enough money to make only 1 trip over the pond, and that I have to make a choice between Gorge and MSG?
Gorge, easy. MSG for a drop-in like me is just another concrete building.
