What, specifically is Perry going to do to change the direction of the country?

He'd probably ensure that a greater percentage of Americans end up earning no more than the minmum wage - a feat he takes pride in having accomplished in Texas:

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/se ... mic-mirage
'Unemployment is stubbornly stuck at about 8%, below the national level but still leaving one million Texans out of work. In 2010 half a million people in the state earned no more than the minimum wage of $7.25 (£4.47) an hour. Texas, for all its glittering metropolises, has the joint highest percentage, along with Mississippi, of hourly paid workers earning the minimum wage or less.'

He'd also probably slash regulations on big businesses, allowing more environmental damage:

'The lack of strict regulation, especially in areas such as the environment and construction permits, is extremely attractive to companies looking to slash their bottom line. Or to engage in practices that are frowned on elsewhere.'

He'd also probably slash the education budget, ensuring that America becomes a country populated mostly with fucktards, with a few fat-bellies reeling them all along in the water like bewildered fish from the comfort of their millionaires yachts (though arguably that's already the case):

'Perry has decided to try to plug a massive budget hole by slashing the state education budget. Four billion dollars is being cut from education, scrapping programmes aimed at helping some of the state's most disadvantaged.'

He'd probably also ensure that healthcare became the sole privilege of him and his rich buddies at the top of the capitalist food chain:

'In healthcare the figures are also shocking. More than a quarter of Texans are uninsured, partly because so many of the state's employers do not offer, or are not required to offer, coverage to their workers.'

i guess the only thing left to do is throw alan keyes and fred thompson into the fold...

Every time I vote, I'm always looking for "The Republicans" or "The Democrats" on the ballot and can never find that line. Not sure what ballots a lot of people are getting.

like your post says ... california's loss is texas gain ...

the state debt in texas has doubled with Perry as governor ... sure, you can make splashy headlines with this and that but the reality is that they are borrowing against nothing to have short term relief at the expense of long term stability ... this is the story playing itself across america ...
I don't know any specifics of Texas, so Perry may well be burning the candle at both ends. But right now I'm in Indiana and our governor, Mitch Daniels, has done some very alarming things.

He deregulated the unions in government jobs when he took office

He has enticed companies to relocate business to the state (I was enticed to move back due to job creation from these enticements ... Cali was getting my tax money earlier in the decade)

He leased the money-pit toll roads to private business for profit.

    He has made spending cuts.

He made Indiana switch to day-light savings (oddly enough, his most controversial decision by a long-shot)

Yesterday it was announced that the state has a $1.2 billion dollar surplus. Not too shabby.
Mitch Daniels, former potential candidate who bowed out of the GOP race has been announced as the next president of Purdue University.

I always though President Daniels had a nice ring to it. Looks like he picked the smart choice on which office to govern from. 8-)

His fund-raising abilities alone make him an excellent choice. Some are concerned that he hasn't spent his entire life in academics, but I think his diverse past will serve the university well. He has never been known to be a rhetoric-spitting politician and his policies have been fiscal oriented. He has in the past made very unpopular decisions that turned out to be very good ones which indicates good leadership and decision making. And he has avoided the social issues which Mike Pence has feasted upon.

At the very least, he can't to much worse then Córdova. The bar has been set by Jischke who was a very slick talking mega-fundraiser.
