and when Mr. Vedder sat backstage and listened to every other band perform saturday.....

the bands that took the time to arrange and rearrange their music ...so it would come off at a whole different level acoustically....

the bands that added back-up singers, violins, cellos, triangles,organs,pianos....

the bands that worked on their harmonizing....

i am sure Mr. Vedder realized they didn't deserve their spot on the bill....

pearl jam should have performed second or third at the bridge shows
    ...
I'm just a little bit confused here...
Pearl Jam did what Pearl Jam always does... why change it? If it was a 'Battle Of The Bands'... then, yeah... flash it up. But, really... it wouldn't be Pearl Jam.
The Foo Fighters did a lot of work and put a lot of effort in their set. They just came off an all Acoustic Tour and replayed it in pieces over the two days. They have been running their show for a while. I had seen their full acoustic shows and they are amazing... brilliant isn't strong enough for them. I can see how someone who has seen the A-Foostic Fighters for the first time can be easily blown away... I know I was. (And you should see them fo 'Razor'... a fucking... well, you just have to see it.
Trent's arrangements were done by the guy playing the violin... and he did a stellar job with the arrangements. I'm pretty sure it is tough to translate NIN to Cellos and Violin. I have never seen acoustic Trent... no one has. That is part of the impact... the surprize element.
Dave Matthews Band... it's a piece of cake for them. Those fucking guys are musicians... like REAL musicians.
Gillian Welch is Bluegrass, which is what she does... Death Cab did an excellent job... but, they don't have to translate 'Lukin' from electric to acoustic.
Brian Wilson was basically Brian Wilson... not quite unplugged and Neil has been doing this for Decades... and he looks and does the same as he always does... except for the years we see on his face.
    ...
And just to set the record straight... I'm not a Pearl Jam junkie, like the ones that are catagorized here. I love the band and their works. They looked like Pearl Jam... they always look like that. It works, why change it?

that's pretty much my feeling too. they didn't have to go crazy and do every song with kazoos or anything (though that could be interesting for a couple of songs).

    Same here, bud.
And I can definately see how people were blown away by the Foos and Trent... it was a rare treat. We have seen the Full on Foo Rock Show... and it rocks. But, we seen it all before. Their acoustic stuff is so far outside the Foo norm that it just amazes you. Same goes for Trent... this was the first time he's done this.
We all have seen Pearl Jam... some people have seen them more times than I could ever imagine wanting to see them. Because you know, there are good things... like fucking... it's great, right? But, can you imagine fucking for a solid 3 months... 24/7. No way... a guy needs a rest.
    ...
Anyway... where was I? Oh, yeah, we have seen Pearl Jam a bunch of times so, there are no great surprizes. If they change it, make it flashy or glitzy... i don't know if it would be Pearl Jam anymore. I don't know if we'd like it.

Remember when Ed was on the ukulele kick? Remember the fits that were thrown because of that? I bet if Mike and Stone switched sides... some people's worlds would be turned upside down.

yes. yes. and yes! Wasn't there but have seen the clips - I think Non-Entity may have been my favorite of what I got to hear. Or Something I can Never have, segued into by The Frail. There really isn't anyone else like him.

lol re Mike and Stone changing sides. PJ sounded good too - loved Throw Your Hatred Down.

Just waiting for all (I hope!) of this to come up as good quality on itunes.

I personally fell in love with Trent Reznor over the weekend. Damn, that was something special and I know NOTHING about Nine Inch Nails. NOTHING.

What a special weekend that was.
Don't come closer or I'll have to go

That is the Trent we know and love. Trent is a multifaceted artist and has done this kind of thing before.

I would strongly suggest that you buy the Still CD. It is truly one of the most heart wrenching albums I have ever heard and, I believe, many NIN fans would say it's some of Trent Reznor's best work. It is truly beautiful and different than what you might be used to.

    You can purchase it here:

    http://www.merch.com/nineinchnails/products.asp?dept=559

If you liked what he did at the Bridge School show you will love this. Unfortunately it's not available for purchase anywhere else. I personally defy anyone to not feel something when they hear this CD.
  • What is your take on Trent?
My take on Trent is that he's a musical genius. He's elevated his art form to whole other level over the years.

If the Bridge School event is the first some of you are hearing from trent Reznor, then you definitely need to check out his other work.

Works he's done that are along the same vein are the "Still" CD and, to a lesser extent, "The Fragile" double CD. - Beautiful music. Still is mostly stripped down and piano-driven. The Fragile is more electronic, but still based on piano/synth and electronica.

I only signed up to this message board to give a little NIN/Trent feedback. Some of your posts have been posted at The Spiral (NIN fan club site) and some of us wanted to give you feedback. Expect more NIN fans to join today :)

BTW - I wore my copy of Ten down to a coaster when I was in grade 9 :o
  • Hey folks,

So I am late to this thread, but I was at the second night of Bridge this year and have finally unearthed some good-quality audio from Trent's amaaaaazing set (to tide you over until Tuesday when we get to see what tracks are offered up on iTunes):
