Wow, tonight was just amazing. PJ and Neil were pretty emotional in their performances tonight, and PJ was really ten times better than last night.

The most amazing acoustic version of BLACK w/ "we belong" version. Really sweet ending with Eddie in high pitch.

Opened with Masters of War and again played with Neil tonight on Throw your Hatred. Neil was really into it tonight, a great jam. Also better man, and can't remember. Very end of show was RITFW with everyone, Eddie singing a verse and the crowd loved him. I'll let someone else fill in the rest of the set list. Way better than last night.

Foo Fighters rocked again tonight, but this night PJ clearly owned the stage with Neil.

I have always kind of liked DMB, but somehow he just does not thrill me live. But he had a good set and played one of Neil's most popular tunes with Neil.

Brian Wilson played a shorter set tonight.

Neil was emotional, and played all his hits and couple rare ones.

Groovy crowd, a little less crowded than last night.

  • Here is a link to some really bad 16 second videos I took on my mobile phone during Black. The YouTube compression makes it look worse. I was sitting in the lawn section, so the video is actually of the large TV screen that was in front of me.

Sorry for the crap video, but at least this might hold you over until the iTunes downloads of Bridge start on November 14.

Amazing weekend. I loved Neil Young's set at the end of each night. Night 2 with Harvest Moon was perfect.

Totally agree with you. Once they played Lukin, I had a big smile on my face for the rest of the night. I'm still on a high from seeing them two days ago...and no it's not chemically induced.

    it was "around the bend"
they've only played it live like ten times total. best...song...ever :D
  • I thought Masters of War was a poor choice for the night, especially to open up their set with.

The crowd was just coming off a huge high of upbeat Brian Wilson and Pearl Jam managed to simply depress everyone and Eddie simply scared the kids.

I went to see Pearl Jam, but I left most dissapointed in their set. I love the songs, but they should have done a much better setlist than they did.

Eddie doesn't always have to be depressed and pessimistic. It's a downer, especially for a fun night of intimacy and sharing. Thank god they didn't play a longer set. They just made room for acts who were ready to have a good time and let the crowd enjoy it.

    funny you say that....

i wont necessarily say i was disappointed in their setlist.....
but i will say many of the other acts at the bridge DESERVED more playing time than Mr. Vedder and the boys....

because they brought much more to the table than pearl jam...

    DMB
    Foo Fighters
    Trent Reznor(fucking incredible)
    Brian Wison

obviously put more time and effort into their acoustic performances than pearl jam did......

    they deserved more playing time....
    Take me piece by piece.....

phew... I'm glad at least someone agrees.

Pearl Jam came... and did what they do every year. A couple songs (that already lend themselves well to the acoustic format) and called it a night.

I feel as if they just go through the motions at the Bridge School Benefit. The only highlight came from Black, and I would say a lot of that had to do with the crowd just aching for SOMETHING to get into during their set.

anyone who isnt an absolute pearl jam junkie.....you know the type....

their entire world evolves around pearl jam....

knows damn well that almost every band at this years bridge put on a better show than pearl jam...
    Take me piece by piece.....
Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....
  • and when Mr. Vedder sat backstage and listened to every other band perform saturday.....

the bands that took the time to arrange and rearrange their music ...so it would come off at a whole different level acoustically....

the bands that added back-up singers, violins, cellos, triangles,organs,pianos....

the bands that worked on their harmonizing....

i am sure Mr. Vedder realized they didn't deserve their spot on the bill....

pearl jam should have performed second or third at the bridge shows
    Take me piece by piece.....
Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....

i would have preferred to have seen DMB and trent change spots on the lineup. if anybody deserved to play longer than PJ (other than uncle neil of course), it was him.
  • this guy put on the best 45 minutes of music i have ever seen....

i will now see him each and every time he comes to chicago....

please... stop the whine fest... if you come to Bridge School just to see PJ you are wasting your money... they just came off a huge European leg.. this is not their type of show... this type of show suits Neil Young a lot more than PJ...
however.. I thought they did a great job on Sunday... they are not going to rearrange songs for Bridge School....it is not what they do...

but if you look at the Bridge School website.. http://www.bridgeschool.org/about/about_supp_contrib.html?l=P
you will notice that PJ is a major contributor... so maybe they don't do a Trent Rez. look and feel and add a violin and three cellos etc but they do put their MONEY WHERE THEIR MOUTH IS.. they not only give their time but they also give their $$..

i wouldnt call it a whine fest.....

just a couple of people giving their honest opinions.....

trent reznor probably made 10,000 new fans over the weekend....

pearl jam probably lost a few.....

i loved PJ's set on sunday, moreso than saturday (though i was in bliss they played parachutes). they played some songs near and dear to my heart opn sunday, so perhaps i'm a *little* biased.

as for black 'going thru the motions'?? we must have been at different shows :) *edit* realized you said black was the highlight, but i don't feel they were going thru the motions at all thru the rest of the set.

Huh. As I sit here cogitating three days later, you know what? I agree too. On the one hand, you've got to work pretty hard at being more depressing than Trent, neh? Good performance of the songs they chose (and of course, looking at the full 2-day set, they were probably only ones that DID mix it up from day 1 to day 2), and I really enjoyed Gone the most, but Black was kinda the salvage point for me.

MoW just started off - down. Around the Bend didn't get anyone back up. Gone did. Betterman didn't sink, but didn't fly. Lukin was over of course before most folks could stand up! But yeah, Black was really beautiful. And Hatred was neat.

Well, I dunno, it WAS a great set, but in the context of Bridge -- I see where ya'll are coming from - they phoned it in... My friend who was just bonkers from SFI and SFIII -- nearly fell asleep....

    I would have liked BW - DMB - Trent - Foo - PJ :-D

But ya know what -- we're spoiled! We know they can pull off BenHall acoustic style kick ass shit and I was waiting for the next amazing thing they were gonna do for us (like Trent did). An encore is nice in it's own way.

wow, i hadn't seen that version before. i am really hoping bridge makes his sets available, i liked saturday night's more for some reason...maybe because it took me so much by surprise
