Such an underrated song. In my top 10.

I love this comment because, IMO, it's true. It's the top comment:

"The only serious rivals to the Beatles. This has to be one of the greatest live performances of all time. Am I wrong!?"

I always preferred the stripped down single (and live) version of Please to the album version...too much electronica on the album version, doesn't really fit the tone of the song.

    The 1997 MTV video awards:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z0rZJ69C ... re=related

I assume most of the audience had no idea what they were hearing, probably expecting Staring at the Sun or something.
Unfortunately this clip ends before they cut to host Chris Rock sitting in the audience after the song saying "Damn, Bono looks like the unabomber"
    This weekend we rock Portland

I saw a video of the stripped down, acoustic version from their last show of the Elevation Tour in Miami, I think. It was different, but I liked it.

Let's see what the U2 bashers have to say about this:

    http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/ ... s-20110818

U2 Donate $7.2 Million to Irish Schools
Money will go to music education

U2 will be providing five million euros – roughly $7.2 million dollars – through 2015 to fund music schooling for Irish children. The donation will mainly be put toward musical equipment and salaries for music teachers. An additional two million euros ($2.9 million) will be given to Ireland Funds, another charitable group supported by people of Irish ancestry around the globe.

U2's donation comes soon after major cuts to Irish education spending in the government's attempt at an economic bailout. The band's donation is designed so that by the end of the five-year term, the government can take over funding for the programs.

Oh, haterz still gonna hate ("Hey, they're still minimizing their taxes!" "They're only doing it for the publicity!"). :)
It must be a slow time for music news, BTW, as this was already known a couple of months ago. Here's a news article from April with some more background to the story. http://www.atu2.com/news/phenomenal-res ... ative.html

Thanks for bringing this up again.

    Take it easy Bono...

    http://www.nme.com/news/u2/58751

...but none of this is true at all. From Julian Lennon's Facebook page:

"For those whom are fans of Bono, the recent reports about him going to hospital with chest pains this weekend, were completely false & just the media trying to stir things up, as usual... He did, however, go for a regular check up last week, but was given the all clear! He's in fine form! ;)"

We can be successful, we can play big music in big places, but whether we can play small music, for radio or clubs, remains to be seen. And we have to get to that place again, if we are to survive."
