The term in the constitution was "gerneral welfare" which was applied to the individual states in which the Fed would help out the state if need be.blackredyellow wrote:keeponrockin wrote:Might be the dumbest thread I've seen on AMT, and that's saying something.
Every citizen in a democracy has the right to vote. Period. End of discussion.

Hey... let's each pick and choose which parts of the Constitution we want to randomly throw out...
Also the term welfare has taken on a different meaning today.
Also, what is our debt again?
No, "general welfare" is not what anyone is talking about when they brought up the Constitution in this thread...
Amendment 24 - Poll Tax Barred. Ratified 1/23/1964.
1. And our Debt.. If we cut EVERYTHING other than Social Security, Medicare, and Defense, we still wouldn't balance the budget. So if people are actually serious about cutting the debt, look at those programs.Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. funny how people claim to love freedom so much are all about trying to take it away from others..."You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln

maybe it's just me ... but you are proposing that anyone who receives social assistance have their right to vote taken away from them ... a basic fundamental right in a democracy ... someone could get hit by a drunk driver and require social assistance and then not be allowed to vote ... it's inflammatory that one would even consider taking that right away from anyone - it's something you hear from dictatorships and military regimes ...0 -

the thing that people who want to cut social security forget that social security is SELF REPLENISHING. people on SS die every day and people are added to the rolls everyday and the population continues to pay into it every day. it is a BENEFIT program.. if social security was left alone and not taken out of that account to pay for things like wars there would be no issue with social security ever running out.keeponrockin wrote:And our Debt.. oh ok. Well that ammendment was primarly to stop segregation and allow blacks to be able to vote. Although important in history, this is not my point.blackredyellow wrote:No, "general welfare" is not what anyone is talking about when they brought up the Constitution in this thread...

this thread is not meant to segregate groups but for people to understand that political platforms will always lean on those who are dependant on them to win votes. This country is now filled with entitlement programs that has now turned into privliages that people pay for.0 -

If you really think everyone has the exact same opportunities, then this thread might as well end right here.
What is not accessible/available to everyone?
Don't confuse opportunities with how hard some people will have to work compared to someone else...
trust me, i'm not confusing anything, just looking at the bigger picture.
Honestly, if you don't know at this point, there's no sense in discussing it...again.Pick up my debut novel here on amazon: Jonny Bails Floatin (in paperback) (also available on Kindle for $2.99)0 -

It is not accessible for anyone who has a job where it is not offered and who doesn't have an extra $250/month to be able to afford it.0

If you don't agree, Why?
Please take into account the point of a system in which people not paying taxes and getting free money, simply vote to keep the system in place and growing. Leaving a party an easy platform of wanting the growth of "entitlements"...

I agree with you there... both parties play the game... However, more policies are implemented for the benefit of big donors, then for people on welfare. My whole life

Why would anyone think that the gov. taking your money, only to give it back to you when you retire is a good program.0 -
because you are not paying the government. you are paying the government to distribute those funds to the elderly and infirmed that would surely die without that money. the government is not profitting from it. it is an investment that you will get back at age 65 or if you become disabled or if your spouse dies, or whatever. if the government left it is a lock box like gore so famously wanted to do, it would be solvent for a hundred years. but since we are stealing from it to pay for wars and make sure a budget might balance on paper it is in some trouble. if we left it alone and the rich and corporations paid their share we would be fine.Blockhead wrote:Thats the whole point of SS...
