    I always thought it's the same character in Why Go (wrongfully stuck in an institution), Daughter (punished and neglected due to learning disabilities), and Rear View Mirror (emancipation), hence the shades being raised a reference to enlightenment and breaking free.

    I always thought it was the hiding family ... the stuff that goes on behind them.
    The wrong, the hurt, the deceit, the abuse.

    Yes and finally when you can start to come to terms or you get away,
    they are lifted or opened.

    Reconciling with them though doesn't change who we are and how we might parent.
    Trust is broken. Fear found a way in.
    It can be a lifetime battle to keep it open.
