Pearl Jam Unplugged

Anytime I watch unplugged show from MTV I wonder how did they do the show. I mean - do I see the real one show that was played live cuz I think the one I have, have been mixed a bit. At the very beginning Ed is wearing his jacket but his left arm is painted... have you noticed?? and on the Porch, some time later, he writes on his arm already... so... Maybe you know if the show was made live or not?? Why the songs are not by turns?? and why didn't they put all of the songs ... ech. :D BTW I love it soooo much, tho.

I always wondered that as well. It makes sense to me that they wanted Porch to end the broadcast but I can't really speak of why they just didn't play it last. Perhaps they played easc song a couple of times and took the best version? Any member here at the original recording?

Well I tjink Porch was played at the end cuz they finished the show after that. I think myslef they must have made few songs again after the main show that's why Ed is still wearing jacket. I have mp3 version of the show and there are many breaks between the songs and all of them...

Nirvana was the only unplugged to be played completely in one take. No songs were redone.

    What Pearl Jam performed...

Oceans, State of Love and Trust, Alive, Black, Jeremy, Porch, Even Flow, Rockin' in the Free World

    ...and what MTV aired...

Even Flow, Jeremy, Alive, Black, State of Love and Trust, Porch

...and what MTV aired in a half-hour format...

    Alive, Jeremy, Black, Porch

...and what Pearl Jam released on the Ten Redux...

Oceans, State of Love and Trust, Alive, Black, Jeremy, Even Flow, Porch

    ...were somewhat different.

Garden and Corduroy weren't performed (I don't think Corduroy was even written then), but Rockin' In The Free World is on there... just wasn't officially released on Ten Redux.

There was a bootleg going around with unplugged in the title, some other stuff too. If I recall it was later/after the official unplugged. It was an acoustic disc, but not the MTV version. I think I recall it having Corduroy. The Directors cut that was floating around long ago of MTV, did not have it (Corduroy), and I have never heard anything to the contrary. The directors cut has Rockin In The Free World. I know the whole performance is out there on some torrent sites, which ones I cannot tell you, as it was years ago I got the full version....

the order it was on that was:
Oceans, SLOAT, Alive, Black, Jeremy, Porch, Evenflow, and Rockin in the free world

I have the video somewhere, Ed Sounds like a teenager

if you want an mp3 of rockin, PM me an email with that song as the title so I know, it is a little less than 7 meg

didn't one MTV unplugged show happen twice? I don't think it was Pearl Jam but I remember one of the earlier ones (maybe Neil Young?) played two and only got aired or something?

Bob Dylan. And the funny part is that his Supper Club shows from the same time sound better than both MYV shows.

  • I could be completely wrong, but I think what happened was, PJ played their set right through (with Porch and the arm writing etc.). Then once that was done, MTV asked them to play a couple of the other numbers again to shoot different angles, get different takes and that's why there are inconsistencies with what Ed's wearing and the marker up his arm etc.
