Does anyone know what the life span of vinyl is before it really wears out, I been listening to my ten vinyl like crazy since i bought the boxset when it came out 2 years ago, and now i play the vs and vitalogy vinyls a ton as well, the still sound great but was wondering how long on average do they last?

  • as long as you are careful to take care of your lp, it may outlast you. records do change as you play them, and the audio quality will lessen with each play over time. it is minimal so long as you store the record properly (ie: controlled temperatures, in a sleeve instead of on the turntable, etc...). you should also store your records vertically rather than horizontally. keep in mind that the needle on a turntable acts as a razor that "cuts" the vinyl each time its played to produce sound. i have records that are over 45 years old that i still listen to. make sure your turntable keeps a clean needle and replace that needle as necessary. your records will live on to your kids if you take care of them.
