Reissue in Uk shops?
Being 'the moronic collector I popped into HMV today in meadowhall to pick up the vs and vitalogy reissues... Separate legacy CDs and the 3 disc box....
Hmv didn't stock it and hadn't had it in. The guy at the till told me he had the ten album for 3 quid if that was of any interest!!!
Well there's little wonder hmv is disappearing fast down the toilet. The damn CDs have been out only a week and they don't have them. That's seriously poor, even taking away my total bias, a record store as big and prestigious as hmv not having a new rock release.... Look around in there though and you can buy every iPod accessory available, Katie prices book, every trance cd under the sun, utterly shite gadgets, calendars, and board games!!!! And at the back they have a little section of rock CDs..... Where did it all go wrong ??
Hmv - we're through. The blank expression on the staff was comical.
So has anyone else seen it in a record store? I'm intrigued, or is this a totally dead and flopping re release?
So I have to order online.
Also anyone received theirs from 10c yet?

i have an even better one that i wasnt going to post. i went in to get the 3 cd box last week in Dublin and it wasnt in HMV. asked a staff member and got a response that actually made me laugh. 'Who are Pearl Jam'. i rest my case. you can buy it on their website but alas i will not be going within an arses roar of that shop any time soon
i wish i wish i wish i wish, i guess it never stops0 -
really? they didn't have it?
that's shocking
i haven't checked my local hmv because I have pre-ordered it already
but they had LOTS and LOTS of copies of Live on Ten Legs, that day it came out
I went and bought it on the day, they had loads
I asked the person- because I couldn't find the Pearl Jam stuff, hard to find things in there
- and she was like Pearl Jam, yep right over here.
you're completely right about it becoming a pile of rubbish - they sell so much crap now that it's barely a music shop anymore
maybe it's just your local hmv? when i go shopping, i'll check mine and see if they have it0 -
Nope, that's the biggest hmv around me too.... The three guys all had blank looks when I said last weeks pj release....
I just told the manager there's no wonder the chain is failing and wandered out shaking my head mumbling 'i'll go grab them all off play.com then'0 -
I saw one in my local HMV (Warrington) on the day of release. Went back in a couple of days later and it'd gone. I don't imagine them getting anymore in.
When Into The Wild and Immagine In Cornice were released they had about 10 of each in stock. They don't actually stock that much music in there anymore, which is why I don't usually buy instore. Add in that its cheaper to buy off their website as well and you can see why HMV is suffering2000: Manchester

Thats sad to hear - was planning on picking up both vinyl reissues from the London HMV, but sounds like What Records will get my money instead (again)...unless my local indie are getting them in of course! Big up Fives (Leigh-on-Sea)!Nature drunk and High0

What a joke. In Australia I have seen them in all stores i've been into the small and the large. From the CD's on their own to in the 3 CD pack. With the smaller stores having the vinyl aswell.
I'm finding that the big stores here no longer carry vinyl, I remember asking at JB which is our largest store, do you have Backspacer on Vinyl and got a funny look..who has vinyl nowdays. Lucky I have found some good smaller stores that carry it.0 -
Yeah my local HMV didn't have it either. I purchased my 3CD deluxe edition from 10C (still waiting for it to arrive though), because amazingly, even with shipping it was the cheapest I could find it. I still checked my local HMV though to see what it looked like, and they didn't have it.
TBH I absolutely hate HMV. It was a long time before my local town had a HMV... we had a couple of great little independant music shops, where you could get anything you wanted... but not long after HMV rolled into town, of course they closed down. Now the only music shop we have left in town is HMV.... and being a small town, it is a fairly small HMV, and so they hardly sell any CDs.
It seems to be mostly a DVD and games shop these days. If you want any CDs that aren't in the charts, and are even just slightly unusual you simply can't get them there. I guess the Vs/Vitalogy reissue must be slightly unusual then! Consequently I have to do all my CD shopping online these days, because I simply don't have any other options where I live thanks to the evil HMV!! :xLondon #1 2000, Reading 2006, London 2007, London 2009, London 2010, Manchester #1 2012, Manchester #2 2012, Manchester 2012 (EV), Milton Keynes 2014, London #2 2017 (EV), London #1 2018, London #2 2018, London #1 2022, London #2 2022, Manchester 2024.0 -

Same for me and Warrington is 'supposed' to be a big town. We have HMV and CEX. HMV have seen off Our Price, Virgin & Andy's Records - that was a cool little shop back in the day. I walk into HMV now and there is a little music section right at the back. I wanted one of Clutch's cd's and found one. £16.99. Like I'm going to pay that much for an album when I can get it cheaper online!!!2000: Manchester

I take it you mean the Truro store? Until about 18 months ago they used to be ok, they stocked the PJ dvds and all the CDs, but fair enough not the vinyls. They did still have PJ cd's in there a couple of months ago when I checked, in fact I bought a replacement Benny cd in there as my disc was damaged. That store have ordered me in stuff in the past as well. To be fair, they cater for the masses and however much I protest my 16 year old brother wants to buy Two Door Cinema Club rather than PJ, and my Dad wants to buy Show of Hands and George Thorogood...they can't please everyone.
I know he doesn't see new stuff but have you checked the second hand music stall in the Pannier market? He had a few PJ ltd singles on CD and vinyl, plus CD albums and had a 10, No Code and I think it was Yield on vinyl he was going to put on eBay as he'd not sold them on the stall.
I went to Jam Records in Falmouth yesterday for Record Store Day, and whilst they don't hold huge stock, they are great at getting hold of stuff for you and had a table of some of the limited RSD releases including Radiohead etc.
I got my deluxe reissue CD set (via Ilockyer) from Amazon in the USA as even with postage it worked out far cheaper than 10C and I've had it for a couple of weeks now.2009 - Manchester. 2010 - Dublin, Belfast, London, Berlin, Arras, Werchter. 2011 - PJ20 i & ii, Montreal, Toronto i & ii, Ottawa, Hamilton.

No, he was in the process/had listed and I did mention the No Code one on here which he was going to do next. 2009 - Manchester. 2010 - Dublin, Belfast, London, Berlin, Arras, Werchter. 2011 - PJ20 i & ii, Montreal, Toronto i & ii, Ottawa, Hamilton.

Hi Dottles,
Yeah I did mean the one in Truro... I think that might be the only HMV we have in the entire county! And we were fairly lucky in that it took a long time for HMV to ever come down here. I just think it's such a shame... I used to love Solo Music. I'd spend hours in there, and you could get virtually anything, and then a few months after HMV rocked up, they closed down. I wouldn't mind so much if you could get the same stuff in HMV... but you just can't unless it's very mainstream. CDs seem to have taken a backseat to DVDs, video games, T-Shirts, books, Ipod accessories etc. Which I guess we've got the download mp3 culture to thank for that as much as anything.
It's all well and good that they can order stuff in... but I can order stuff on the internet. Call me old fashioned but I like nothing better to spend hours browsing through CD shops, and sadly it's really hard to find anywhere to do that in Cornwall anymore. I'm not into downloading Mp3s at all. I always go in HMV when i'm in Truro... just because there is nowhere else... but I always come out feeling pissed off!! Never thought of checking out the Panier market though... thanks for the tip!
Funny old thing... I popped down to Jam records yesterday as well. I didn't know it existed until I found it on the RSD website. I didn't get there until about 10:30am though, and most of the RSD stuff had gone by then. Apparently people had been queuing there since the early hours. I'm not really a vinyl collector anyway (although I love it), but I just thought I'd pop down there since it was RSD. It was a pretty cool place TBH, although very small. They held a lot of stuff by local bands which was good.
Funny how the Vs/Vitalogy reissue worked out cheaper via 10C than it did for all of our UK based websites (all the ones I checked anyway!). Sadly I didn't have the connections to get it via US based websites! I'll probably only be waiting another couple of weeks for mine to turn up lol! I don't mind waiting too much though TBH... it's not as if I've never heard those albums!London #1 2000, Reading 2006, London 2007, London 2009, London 2010, Manchester #1 2012, Manchester #2 2012, Manchester 2012 (EV), Milton Keynes 2014, London #2 2017 (EV), London #1 2018, London #2 2018, London #1 2022, London #2 2022, Manchester 2024.0 -

yeah, they are good re-masters though, you'll enjoy them.
Solo was good, I did used to spend time in there and bought loads of gig tickets in there, I think I got Radiohead, Levs and Jack Johnson tix there. There was Mordros and Number 1 too and a Fopp for a while. In Fally we had Our Price
I remember there being other Solo shops, it was a regional chain I think.
However much we dislike it, HMV have to cater for the masses and are guided heavily by record companies and alike. They've had three profit warnings this financial year, downloads have had a huge impact.
Maybe you should open a record store
I'd come in

This doesn't surprise me at all. I have been living here for 2 years & cannot remember the last time i went to a record store if there are any near me, i just dont know. I have ordered all my music off amazon & will continue to do so.
