I love that they cared enough to make a song like that. Lovely message, with lots of respect.

This one definitely grew on me over the years. I dig it

There are many instances of whales "fighting back" or on some occasions just attacking ships for no reason. Although after being hunted the way they have, I guess even if one particular ship doesn't provoke that whale there is a "reason" behind it, so I don't blame them too much. The most famous whale attack was the attack on the Essex, an incident that turned several of the survivors into cannibals during the ordeal afterwards, and it was the incident that inspired Moby Dick. The Essex wasn't exactly minding its own business though, as they were hunting a pod of sperm whales.
So when I've heard the line "They won't fight back. I'm sure they know how. Beings that love are too proud." it always struck me as kind of strange. I get what Jack was trying to say though, and his heart was in the right place."See a broad to get dat booty yak 'em, leg 'er down, a smack 'em yak 'em!"0 -
I have been fortunate in my life to see a few different times Grey Whales Swimming in the Ocean near the Farallon Islands, 26 miles past the Golden Gate in San Francisco. They are beautiful, majestic Mammals. Pearl Jam (Jack) wrote a beautiful song, paying honor to Whales and Our Oceans. I love this song! Thank you Pearl Jam for caring.

Ha, yeah sure....The time and place to play it was when Ed said OTOTO at the Hartford Civic Center last year (former home of the Whalers, current home the of CT Whale), as they once played Rats for the River Rats in Albany.0

"Breakfast, shmreakfast. Look at the score, for Christ's sake. It's only the second period and I'm up 12 to 2. Breakfasts come and go, Rene, but Hartford, "the Whale," they only beat Vancouver once, maybe twice in a lifetime."
PBM"We paced ourselves and we didn't rush through it and we tried to be as creative as our collective minds would let us be over some course of time instead of just trying to rush through a record"
