And I downloaded and listened to it myself. Like I said, right before the caller asked about PJ20 Mike was talking about seeing SRV front row at Gorge.

lets also hope that it's hot as hell as that fateful day and not cold. pretty freaky to know the festival is gonna be right around the same time of his death. bad enough ten and no code were released on august 27th.dimitrispearljam wrote:

2. The context of the conversation leading up to that is Mike talking about seeing SRV at the Gorge, no reference to Alpine Valley or SRV death, except for Rob being all like ooooooooo, no helicopters and what not.
So to me, he is referencing the Gorge and Rob is more referencing Alpine.
when i heard it live, that's exactly what I thought. The whole conversation leading up to it was about Mike seeing SRV at The Gorge, and right afterwards when asked about PJ20, he said "same place".0 -
Is it just me, but I'm more interested in hearing about them getting in the studio with all those demos. And so you see, I have come to doubt

To point 1: I stand corrected. I'm pretty sure that was McCready. I've edited the OP to reflect that. I sometimes have a hard time hearing out who is who when people are talking over each other. Thanks for bringing it up.
To point two: Alpine Valley is kind of the preeminent SRV reference. It's also one of the most widely known things about Alpine Valley Music Theater. I'm confident that if you ask any big blues fan about him, one of the trivia nuggets they will be able to recite is how, when, and where he passed away.
This block quote is from SRV's website (http://www.srvofficial.com/us/content/biography):
"In the spring of 1990 Stevie Ray recorded an album with his brother Jimmie, which was scheduled for release in the fall of the year. In the late summer of 1990, Vaughan and Double Trouble set out on an American headlining tour. On August 26, 1990, their East Troy, WI, gig concluded with an encore jam featuring guitarists Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimmie Vaughan, and Robert Cray. After the concert, Stevie Ray boarded a helicopter bound for Chicago. Minutes after its 12:50 a.m. takeoff, the helicopter crashed, killing Vaughan and the other four passengers. He was only 35 years old."
There is only one large music venue in East Troy.
Although they were talking about those other locations you mentioned (The gorge, etc...) in the context of the prior conversation, when Tim said "Speaking of Stevie Ray Vaughan..." it was clear to me that it was an AVMT reference. Especially when Mike followed up Tim's line of thought with "Right. Same place..."
I am convinced that AVMT is what they were referring to.
That being said... It's still not been officially announced."A lot more people are capable of being big out there that just don't give themselves a chance." -Stone Gossard0 -
aaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh
i see your logic
i was hearing gorge too
but your reference makes sensepeace,

Still doesn't give us a date.
If anything, now people are exploring the idea of PJ fest being around September, October, November, when they were so dead-set on Labor Day Weekend.
Ugh. :eh:If hope can grow from dirt like me ...0 -

hey if not on Labor Day, then airfare/hotel will be cheaper...think positive! The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.

Very true I suppose. I have a friend who just got hired in Madison and will be leaving Buffalo to live there in two months or so. I'll probably end up driving (if I score tickets) and staying with him for the weekend if it does end up being at Alpine. After Labor Day would be nice though, it'd be a lot easier for me to get an entire weekend off.If hope can grow from dirt like me ...0 -
What I found interesting listening at the time (I haven't done a replay yet) was that I was kind of zoning out trying to keep up with the chatroom stuff, so I missed the initial reference - but then suddenly it was REALLY obvious that there had been a slip up and they were now trying to cover that up - so I started paying more attention. There definitely was a sense that they had let the cat out of the bag - and then started throwing around lots of other places to try and divert attention - though they were also amused by the whole thing.Cancel my subscription to the Ressurection

Just listened to the show... hahaha WOW. I think it absolutely was a slip up, they all realized it and struggled to throw out some random diversions, but I definitely believe Mike spilled the beans on the location. So awesome! There's nothing else to ponder, demetriuspearljam already said it best...
SEE YOU ALL IN WISCONSIN!!!0
