I watched that movie for the first time ever about a week ago.

I would say that the guys in pearl Jam are not near as big as assholes as the guys in that movie.

The Golden God scene is based on Crowe's time with the Allman Brothers.

No it isn't, it's a famous Robert Plant quote, I remember it from when I read the Led Zeppelin Book "Hammer of the Gods" when I was in Jr. High.

It is a great movie! Real nice from Cameron Crowe and yeah, I believe that he based the movie by different groups, but the most one I heard of was Allman Bros. and Led Zeppelin, I haven't heard of PJ, but if so, then that's really really cool!

I'm sorry, I just had to comment on your post PJpixie! A fried Pickle?! Haha, that must've been one hell of a night! How do you fry a pickle? :P

And yeah, Noonie, that's a true story about the bus leaving without Eddie, it was a lollapalooza gig and he ran all the way I think, He didn't even hitch hike and Eddie was kinda late, so I read that Chris Cornell was going to stall the crowd until he got there....Something like that, It's on here: TwoFeetThick.com (Lollapalooza '92 Retrospective).

There is this Bar in Fullerton CA called SLIDEBAR that makes them........they are incredible!! I have no idea how they do it but SENROCK swears she is gonna perfect the recipe for me so It won't cost me $20 every time i crave one!

Oops, sorry my sleep deprived mind didn't explain that very well. The quote is from Plant, but the situation of having to look after a stoned rockstar was based on Crowe's experience with the Allman brothers... or Deep Purple, can't remember which. :o

Hey Fowls! Thanks a whole lot for those detailed tidbits! I have never gotten it on DVD, I always watch it when it comes on TV, but it'd be really cool to hear Crowe's commentary on the movie, it's really a great movie, I can't stop complimenting it enough! And wow, to have to think that Crowe actually met all those bands and lived through all those adventures, what an amazing time he must've had! Man! I would give anything to have toured and covered for all those bands....Especially PJ, I think after that I'd die satisfied :p Anyone get goosebumps at the Tiny Dancer scene? It's just such good scene, really shows how music can bring people together.

Noway PJpixie! I thought the whole fried pickle thing was an accident, I can't believe they actually make it! But lol, it actually sounds delish, heh, if I ever come down there, I'm definetly going to the SLIDEBAR :p Or when Senrock perfects the recipe, let her send one my way :P

Love the movie as many do on this board. However, that Kate Hudson chick was way too bland for that 'Penny Lane' character. Now I imagine a lot of you thought she was "fucking brilliant" or whatever but to me, she was just not up to par. Although I can't think of anybody else. Maybe Scarlett Johanson would have been a good pick but I don't think she was around back then.

Sarah Polley was originally supposed to play Penny Lane, but early into rehersals she realized that the movie was going to be a very big commercial success in the US and would launch whatever actress who played the role into the limelight in a big way... and she didn't want that for her career. So she left the movie and it went to Kate Hudson, who is now famous for it....

Interesting tidbit. Thanks for that. I googled her and she looked familiar. Can't remember if I saw her in any movies though.
I just don't get what's so special about Kate Hudson. Extremely bland. Now, her mom, she is something! Very talented. Apparently, the actor gene did not pass through to the daughter.

She's done mostly independent films and Canadian films (think David Cronenburg, Atom Egoyan) and directed a few as well (notably "Away from Her").

I don't know about Kate Hudson as an actress in general, but her performance in Almost Famous is pretty damn good. The scene where he tells her she was sold to Humble Pie for beer is, in my opinion, acting perfection.

Very useless fact on ALMOST FAMOUS very useless. Near the end where William, interviews Russel for the last time and asks Russel "what do you love about music" Russel turns the chair around throws the t-shirts on the floor but the very next scene you see the t-shirts right back on the chair.
    Told you it was useless.

haha Scott :D and you know what? I'm like that too! I pay attention to the strangest things in movies! I go Like "In that scene the glass a mintue ago was full of water and now the next mintue it's half empty and he didn't even drink it! DID YOU NOTICE THAT?!", Yeah, I do that too lol, but for some reason I sometimes think it's fun to notice all the mistakes and glithces and all, lol, it gives you something to do after you've seen the movie a thousand times :p Don't worry you're not alone ;) and wow, Film School, that's pretty cool, lucky duck :p

I like that movie too. I just thought it was funny that Sarah Polley decided to pass on Almost Famous becuase it would be too much of a hit and she would rather do more smaller artistic films, and then she goes and does a big hollywood zombie movie.

Oh, yea maybe not a glitch.....I think it is. When the plane hits its first air pocket You can see BEBE laughing his ass off in the background.....like he was on a rollercoaster. Only Russel was laughing at the time. I might be stretching on this one. The next scene you see BEBE in he was dead serious.

Really great movie, it was on TV at midnight a couple of months ago and I ended up staying up till 3 to watch the whole thing. A true "feel good" movie with a sick soundtrack. Also after reading some of the Cameron Crowe article on PJ from when he followed them around, you can definitly tell there are more than a few nods to them throughout the movie as well as Zeppelin and many others as already mentioned here. Next Pearl Jam tour, 1st encore, Fever Dog, you heard it here first! :)

I thought Kate was Penny Lane in fact.....her smile....her spirit....she fit the part as far as I am concerned. I cant see anyone else.
The entire cast~ sound track ~ total package was perfect.
