I know what you mean. I love that song. It's my favorite besides Given To Fly.
    "In the age of darkness
    want to be enlightened"

RELEASE was the very first song I heard LIVE. My first show san diego 11-6-95. The stage was dark, just candles. Eds head was hung low. His voice was like a blanket on a freezing night. I wont ever forget that. If anyone has the dvd/boot of that show feel free to hook it up!!! :D

Yea I like the song a little bit...

    Hence the name...
    Conversations getting dull
There's a constant ringing in my ears
Sense of humor's void and numb
    And I'm bored to tears.......

such a powerful and emotional song...

I always get chills at the "I'll wait up in the dark\For you to speak to me\I'll open up\Release me" part of the song. Especially when I'm listening to a live show like Atlanta '94...

The last time they played in Kansas (outdoor venue), there was a lightening storm occurring during Release. Ed sang, "Oh dear Dad, can you see us now?" and then (as if on cue) the sky lit up and the crowd went wild, so Ed replied, "Hi Dad". From that point on, his performance was extra intense! If you get a chance to hear that bootleg, take notice. It's really emotionally charged.

    Peace, love,
    Smile

It took me until 2006 to experience that feeling. But it was worth the wait.

Just hearing those opening notes was enough to give you goosebumps.

Out of their whole catalog, I still have this one on my top 5.

    Doesn't get much better.
Gets up, lights a cigarette he's grown to hate
Thinking if he can't sleep, how will he ever dream?

But his heart don't seem to roam......

That is my favorite part of the whole song. That and the way Ed starts Immortality 1st time I heard it was during the 2000 tour.
Here’s a question you might need to ask
What’s self destruction and how can we last?

"I cannot stop the thought of running in the dark.
Coming up a which way sign. All good truants must decide."

The way he sings... "I'll ride the wave where it takes me"!

That's the part that gives me the MOST chills.

    Love it as the opener!
"Had my eyes peeled both wide open, and I got a glimpse...of my innocense, got back my inner sence, baby got it...still got it"

and the way the crowd sings along WITH him!!! Its like no matter what you were dealing with/going thru/thinking about BEFORE the show; when they play RELEASE and that line comes up.....EVERYTHING is forgotten and you sing it with all of your being. i freakin LOVE pearl jam!!!!!
