This thread is going crazy...but I'm glad it's still going strong. Newch, I keep thinking your new avatar is you...looking like Dave, but with a cap and gown holding a diploma...no Idea why but it always makes me look twice. Okay, I'm tired and not making sense...also a bit excited for the news that is supposed to be coming any day soon...0

The Bob Johnston years were awesome for Dylan. He was just killing it and writing awesome songs in the late60's - early70's."FF, I've heard the droning about the Sawx being the baby dolls. Yeah, I get it, you guys invented baseball and suffered forever. I get it." -JearlPam09250 -

I'm still trying to get my head around the lyrics from Bringing It All Back Home to Blonde on Blonde. WHAT WAS HE ON WHEN HE MADE THOSE 3 ALBUMS??? Those were wild times Newch. He was all over the place. I like to think that his claim holds true that he stopped writing protest songs in 1964 and I think his lyrical departure from that with the albums you described post 1964 until John Wesley Harding was indicative that he was forcing himself away from being "the voice of his generation".
I listened to Nashville Skyline on vinyl the other day and to me, that's the most perfect Dylan record.
edit: love the Dylan discussion kid"FF, I've heard the droning about the Sawx being the baby dolls. Yeah, I get it, you guys invented baseball and suffered forever. I get it." -JearlPam09250 -

I ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm, no more. He's saying "I'm not writing any more protest songs."
I've got a head full of ideas that are driving me insane/It's a shame the way she makes me scrub the floor.
The "ideas" he talks about are what'll eventually happen in BIABH to Blonde on Blonde. The "she" in the next line probably refers to either Joan Baez or Joni Mitchell, who wanted him to keep writing the protest songs.
"Maggie's Farm" is his declaration of freedom from the folk scene and writing protest songs.
I have to give "Nashville Skyline" a few more listens.Shows: 6.27.08 Hartford, CT/5.15.10 Hartford, CT/6.18.2011 Hartford, CT (EV Solo)/10.19.13 Brooklyn/10.25.13 Hartford

Not to derail your Dylan discussion (which im sure my other half is enjoying if he is spectating
) but what do people think about tailgating for the Bushnell? I know that the free parking lots across the street from the venue are for the people who work at the state buildings there. Obviously, the show would be either after the workers are out or on the weekend. I went to the Bushnell once, but there was no tailgating going on. It was a rainy weekday show which may have made the difference there. Im just wondering if they will have heavy police presence in the parking lot to prevent tailgating because it is state property. Or, if they arent even thinking about it because the venue really only does plays and shit (I dont imagine too many people tailgate before going to see Rent
), and they have no fucking clue what the hell is gonna go down when EV rolls up with his PJ followers in tow. Im just thinking, it would be a shame to come prepared to tailgate (with coolers full and pockets only filled for specific merch) and then realize the po po got a lock on the parking lot and we gotta cram into some little bar downtown. We will need to have a plan B. Plan A obviously being for tailgating (because its cheaper, you get to enjoy the great outdoors and Newch can have a beer
) Locals will have to help us choose that plan B locale.
