+1 would love a blu-ray edition....in fact..a blu-ray edition of all of the previous DVD's would be sweet as well.

We probably won't get those until 2056 when 6D TV's are released.
8K 3D has already been shown, actually... 4K 2D content can be produced by high-end video cameras such as the RED EPIC, so I'd say 6D in 2056 sounds feasible to me :)

I think people are misrepresenting the US demand for Bluray

going into the holiday season, less than 20% of US households had Bluray players and most that do are PS3s (which is what I have)

So unless they had a really good season, still less than 1 in 5 people have an interest in things other than DVDs

I think stores try to hype the demand because they obviously make more money

For what it's worth, too, I think we'll see a spike in Blu-Ray prices over the next little while, as Sony is the largest manufacturer of Blu-Ray discs, and I believe I read that they would be closing their Japan factory for at least a few months, which should reduce global supply of the discs significantly.

monkeywrench records may also not want to deal with the licensing costs. apparently, sony has tricky and expensive licensing arrangements since they own the technology. it may not be worth it for one or two releases.

I think a blu-ray/vinyl lp/cd bundle would work well for me!

Just found out it's actually gonna be released on red-ray. Sorry guys. It's the next step in ray technology. Time to go out and buy a PS4. : (

Better luck next time with the blu-ray petition.
  • Standard DVDs look terrible on my 1080p plasma TV, and I don't think that I should have to change resolution settings whenever I want to play a DVD. Blu-ray is the way to go!

I bet Demetrios just wants a Bluray option, not for a Bluray only release. That way everyone is happy and you can choose your preference.

To make everyone happy, for sure. Not everyone has a PS3 or a Blu-ray player / Blu-ray ROM. It would be great to have two options when buying new video format releases. The ED DC footage was shot in HD. Would be sad to release that footage only in DVD format & not in it's true HD experience. Plus everybody by now has an HD TV or HD Monitor @ their home or office.

definitely would be great to see it released in blu ray. blu ray audio and video quality are superb for watching/listening to music (aside from vinyl.) I'm hoping for a blu ray and dvd release.

Doesn't virtually everything get released in blu-ray now?
  • Please release this on blu! Don't get me wrong, if it's not, I'll still snatch it up on DVD!

I agree. I'd prefer to see this come out on bluray.

BTW I don't know if player sales are an indicator of movie sales. IE people who bother to spring for a bluray player are probably more videophile people, and might be more prone to collecting more movies which would have a bigger impact on sales. Still 20% of the market in 4 years.. thats not too shabby either. I think that would be a large enough market to sell pretty much anything on blu now.

Bluray looks alot better than dvd. For those that don't see it. You could be using a borderline screen. IE a 40 inch screen viewed from 6ft away is going to see a pretty big diff between blu and dvd. The same TV viewed from 10ft is going to be less pronounced. It really depends on peoples setups, but for most its a huge quality in difference.

One of my favorite bluray concert dvd's, is a Metallica one I important. It looks like it was filmed in some kind of roman coliseum... its pretty cool. It made me wish imagine in cornice had been release on blu (as it was also filmed in hd).

I think most other bands are on the HD bandwagon now. With the advent of HDTV's and a higher quality format for those tv's, it only makes sense to release on dvd and blu.

I'd love a Blu-ray as much as the next man. But i'll be more than happy with DVD.

    But yes, BD please :)

I am totally nitpicking here, but that doesnt necessarily mean it looks better. The argument about using HD vs 35 mm film is that it is cheaper, not that it looks better, digital has a tendency to "blow out" certain colors and shades.

That said, the fact that it was shot in HD means that, with 100% certainty, this would benefit from a Blu-Ray release.

Yep. Every major studio is fully underway in having their back catalogues updated and restored into the blu-ray medium. It is here to stay.

That is very true, like I said, nitpicking. It is a common misconception that shooting in HD is somehow superior to shooting in 35mm.

Not to mention almost all big releases put it out in a combo pack giving you the DVD and digital download for free along with the blu-ray disk.

What worries me even more than this is them putting out Pearl Jam Twenty in DVD format only. That would be an absolute disgrace. Especially when I guarantee you the price of this DVD will be close to blu-ray prices. No new DVD release is more than $16 anymore. How much do you want to bet if this is released in DVD only format, this Ed disk will be closer to the $40 Blu-ray/DVD combo packs.

    With today's 3D crazied junkies, it's a 4 disc combo pack for 1 film. 1 - 3d Bluray disc. 1 - 2d Bluray disc. 1 - DVD disc & 1 - disc that includes the digital download for your PC/Mac or portable system.

Cameron Crowe just weeks ago released the Almost Famous Bootleg Edition film on Bluray in Jan. Gotta pick that up for Easter. Anyway's, his films will be getting the Bluray treatment. Crossing fingers next will be Singles that will be released. I did download an HDTV copy of that film months ago @ 1080i. Pearl Jam Twenty which will be released by Universal? will go all out & get this baby released on Bluray.

If they do release the Ed solo Bluray/DVD package @ 40 bucks, fuckin eh. But if they release the single DVD disc @ more then 30 bucks US (without shipping), d'oh! :(
