Vitalogy Remastered - Review

found this, not sure if this has been posted...
i found it interesting that the review mentions that the songs were "re-mixed" cause i though they were just remastered but basically the same...cool that the songs might be tweaked a little bit

I was hoping the Corduroy outtake would be the slower version.

yeah me too, i love the bridge school 94 version
Do a little more research on remix vs. remaster.
don't think that was "written" until 2 years later
i think that was 96
ah yes, you're right, slight mental lapse there

The article does imply that some songs were remixed, like Corduroy...
"Unfortunately, other songs have suffered from over-mixing and have lost some of their charm compared to the original versions. ‘Corduroy’ for example, has an improved intro, with bass notes ringing out, but as the song ends, the multiple guitar tracks are lost in the mix, and many of the nuances that make the song what it is are drowned out, to the detriment of an otherwise great re-mix. In the same vein, the verses in ‘Immortality’ border on becoming a mush of noise, with only Vedder’s vocals cutting through clearly"

That doesn't sound good at all. I hope they haven't ruined the songs

you're paying for the trinkets and packaging and what not... the albums were perfect the way they were
PERFECT

I agree here, I don't believe they needed remastering. I don't think any album does really. Re-issues/re-masters are basically a cash cow aren't they? Anyone who thinks differently is naive in my view.

:-?
a lot of stuff from the 80's and 90's just have a dated sound by today's recording standards... i actually like it on most stuff... but some albums could benefit from the treatment
http://seanbriceart.com/
but i disagree with some posts on here, cds from the 80s and 90s sound so much better than they do today.
I think the alternative Ten 'reduxed' mix was a completely different kind of project to these latest remasters - it had some very distinctive studio production that the band wanted to alter. Not so for Vs. and Vitalogy.
I fear what is being described in the review may be the effects of the much debated current trends in digital mixing and mastering: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loudness_war
Still, I will listen to these with an open mind

That's what the review kinda sounds like to me. :(
After listening to the Ten Remix/Redux it sounds great, definitely benifitted from it.
As to vs and vitalogy - they seemed perfect to me, but that's what I thought about original Ten too
