East Coast Book Events

Greetings everyone

I will be on the east coast next week speaking and signing some
books. So If I happen to be in your neck of the woods, stop on by...

- Tues. March 22 -- MassArt Tower Auditorium, Boston MA

- Wed. March 23 -- Robin's, Philadelphia, PA
- Thurs. March 24 -- Bluestockings, New York, NY
- Fri. March 25 -- The Book Cellar, Chicago, IL (w/Jay Ryan)

Then on Saturday March 26th I'll be in Fairfield, Texas at the
Healthy Rhythm Community Art Gallery for the opening night
of their exhibition of some of my posters. Read below for more
info:

From March 26th through May 18th, 2011, a limited engagement
showing of his poster art will be on display at Healthy Rhythm
Community Art Gallery in Fairfield, Texas.

Not only will Klausen’s artwork be on display at the Gallery for
two months, but also, coinciding with an East Coast and Midwest
book signing tour, Klausen plans to attend the unveiling of the
exhibition, “Printing Outside The Margins”, on the evening of
March 26th. That evening, there will be an artist book signing
and question and answer session. Klausen has also agreed to
donate a limited number of signed prints to Healthy Rhythm
Community Art Gallery to auction as a fundraiser for the event.
Signed prints can be viewed at the Gallery and online
approximately one week prior to the opening of the exhibition.
Individuals can place silent bids at the Gallery or send an email
to healthyrhythm@gmail.com. People will have one last
opportunity to bid on signed prints opening night, when all
winners will be announced. All proceeds help support the
Gallery and its Youth In Arts initiatives.

Upcoming Posters...

I've been busy making new posters and will be having a poster
sale on or around April 9th for 5 new posters... a new Black Keys
Poster for their show in Amsterdam, 2 Eddie Vedder posters from
his tour in Australia, a Tres Mountains tour poster, and a Flight to Mars
poster for their show coming up in April in Seattle. I'll be sending
out an email announcing the time and date of that sale at the end of
March... so stay tuned.

I hope you are all doing well and look forward to seeing some of you
out there in the world next week...

thanks as always

FRICK!!! I hope I don't miss him because of Tres Mts!!!! Really wanna go to the signing, but also really wanna get to Philly in time to see the band. Coming out of work and battling the Schuylkill traffic means arriving in Philly at like 8-ish... Anyone know what time the signing is?

I think these events may justify a day off from work and a full day in center city....hopefully you can swing it?

I totally would, but I'm going down with at least one other guy (who's not a poster/BK fan at all). No way I can talk him into taking a day off. If anything he'd wanna take the next day off

Brad Klausen – From a Basement in Seattle: poster art by Brad Klausen ($24.95 Akashic)
with introductions by Eddie Vedder and Jeff Ament from Pearl Jam

Pearl Jam’s longtime in-house designer, Brad Klausen,
presents his first book of visually stunning poster art.
“Klausen’s left-field philosophies and twisted narratives beautifully underscore the stunning large-format artwork and contribute a greater depth of expression. A must-have for any music fan, artist, or aspiring graphic designer.” –Publishers Weekly, Starred Review and Pick of the Week

“Stylized, suggestive, gorgeously composed, Klausen’s art is the work of a metaphorist who sees the world from an admittedly skewed angle.” –The Seattle Times

FROM A BASEMENT IN SEATTLE is an extensive look into the creative process through which artist Brad Klausen generates imagery for rock posters for Pearl Jam, Built to Spill, Queens of the Stone Age, and others. Starting chronologically with the first poster he ever made all the way to the most recent, covering more than seventy-five different works, the book follows the growth and development of the Klausen’s entire catalog. Alongside the image of each finished poster are sketches and detailed commentary of the story behind the execution and concept of the individual designs.

ALL THE NEVER-BEFORE-SEEN PIECES AND PARTS that were used to build each design are included: the initial rough sketches, the final inkings, the hand-drawn and computer-drawn typographic elements, and all other elements used in the construction of the final piece. Klausen takes apart and dissects each design to show how the artwork comes together, providing the viewers a rare look over the shoulder of the artist and allowing them to take a look inside the creative process of what goes into making rock posters.

BRAD KLAUSEN grew up in Southern California and moved to Seattle in 1999 to begin a nine-year career as the in-house graphic designer for the world-famous rock band Pearl Jam. In July 2007 he launched Artillery Design, his one-man design shop where he continues to make posters for Pearl Jam, Built to Spill, Widespread Panic, and many other bands. He still lives in Seattle.

If the Robin's signing starts at 6, we have plenty of time to get there and back to the TLA before the band starts.
