PJ music used to intro Sean Hannity...

At 3:35pm on Sean Hannity's radio show today, the opening riff to Alive was used as the intro music back in to the show after a commercial break.

I do not know exactly what control the band has over how their music is used on the radio, but I do know that a number of bands have prevented their music from being used during GOP rallies in recent elections. I can't possibly imagine that the band stands with Sean Hannity. I urge the band and members of this board to address this matter, as Pearl Jam's music should not be utilized by a right wing neo-con like Hannity to help promote his show.

I don't know what's more disturbing, the music being played in the opening segment or the fact you were listening to a Sean Hannity radio show.

Yes, I was. I listen to all of that right-wing crap to educate myself about the views of my polar opposites. It's called educating yourself. How can you resist, if you're blind to exactly what the other side is saying? Of course, my wife thinks I'm a bit crazy to bother listening, and my doctor would probably say it's not helping my blood pressure...

It's probably not too big of a deal for the band. They have more important issues to worry about such as their 20th anniversary and what not, but this is nothing new.

We used to carpool for lunch at my old job and one of my co-workers was a good guy but a devoted Rush Limbaugh listener and would have him on in his car when it was his turn to drive for the week. And for awhile after self-titled was released, Rush Limbaugh would come back from commercials to Worldwide Suicide.

It's actually somewhat humorous that a conservative talk show host would use the music of a band that's been on the VFC tour and have been such outspoken critics of conservative whack jobs in general.

I was just kidding actually. But I get it. That's why I watch the Daily Show and Colbert. That way, I get the most ridiculous things said by Fox News and a joke to calm me down afterwards. And you don't have to have such drastic changes in blood pressure that way.
However, I'm sure there are a couple of conservative fans of the band so maybe cooler heads should prevail and we shouldn't make a big deal about this. Besides, promotion is promotion right?

I dont have a problem with it, cmon its an 5 second rift on the way back from commerical. Its not exactly promoting the show. If the producer likes the song why not let him play it. If they use it to market the show its a different story.

Yes and no (promotion is promotion). It's exactly like songs being used at rallies - would you want something you put so much effort into to be associated with an ideology you completely disagree with? While there are conservative PJ fans (I've seen plenty, whether it was half an arena booing a Bush-mocking EV at Uniondale '03 or drunken rednecks stumbling around pre and post show, screaming "Shut up and play music" whenever Eddie talks to the crowd about a social issue he cares about), the band themselves do not (in my opinion), even remotely, support anything Hannity spews from his mouth... so I don't think the music should be associated with that show. Does the band need Hannity fans as fans of their work? Nah, I don't think so.

Yeah, I get it. I don't watch or listen to Hannity or The Factor or Rush or any of that...but I use to watch Keith O and sometimes Rachel Maddows just to see what stupidity they were spewing from time to time. They are all idiots.

And you are right, it doesn't help the blood pressure.

According to Kat, radio stations have a blanket license from ASCAP/BMI to use their music (certain restrictions apply). It sucks, but I guess it's one of the prices you pay for signing a contract.

That doesn't take away from the fact that it's pretty funny for anyone related to Fox News to use Pearl Jam music on their show... even better that the riff in question was played by Stone, someone who supports environmental stewardship and responsibility, on the radio show of a guy that thinks global warming is a left wing socialist conspiracy theory...

Man, that's really weird how some can separate their politics from the music they like isn't it?

I live with my grandma because of a divorce (not me, my parents). I come home to that crap every day, so I kind of grow tired of it. You get the picture.

I get what you mean though.
