For me the only good christian band is switchfoot, is not preachy or self righteous, i've been to a couple of their gigs (switchfoot is my wife's favorite band) and i can say i enjoyed their act. For me the rest of the bands are just bad cover bands of the "Secular" bands.

Pigeon John- he is actually hip-hop and a bit techno. I love his hip-hop.

  • They are long defunct but I've always been a big fan of PFR. Joel Hanson's voice may not be your cup of tea but he's a great guitar player and songwriter. The songs are theologically solid but never preachy. The band itself has a Crowded House/Beatles vibe to it. Very tight three piece band. You can find pretty much all their stuff on iTunes (my favorite is "Great Lengths").

I remember getting suckered into a Petra concert as a young lad. I don't know many good Christian bands, but I know at least one horrible one.

I think Collective Soul is religious, not my cup of tea but not all together terrible.

Sorry, couldn't resist ... I have nothing against Christian rock ... I honestly don't know who is or isn't in this genre ... I just wanted to be a smart ass.

  • Third Day was great, but have lost their edge and got kinda generic. I recently went back and listed to Conspiracy No. 5 fro the mid 90s and it really holds up, good guitar riffs and production. It wwould be called "alternative" if they had to label it, but it's a real good heavy rock record. Great lyrics, Mac Powell is really good with words and doesn't just do the generic praise stuff. I once read that he's a huge PJ fan as well. Saw them man times live, always great. The only christian band I like, never heard anything else good.

Well, Derek Webb has written some really good solo stuff, kinda the singer/songwriter style, check out the song Beloved.

Third Day's recorded some of their records at Southern Tracks. I think BOB may have mixed one of them too...
