Good Christian Bands?

I know alot of us, including myself sometimes get turned off, whenever we hear an artist is a Christian singer or musician, because at least to me, it sort of seems like you picture a band or musician pushing their views of God and the heavens on you.

But obviously there are some good christian artists. Who are some of your favorites? I used to really like POD. The fundamentals and Sattelite were good as far as I remember.

And Sufjan stevens of course. the guy could sing about phonebooks or aliens and it would still sound amazing.

I really like Matt Kearney, he is from Eugene, so its pretty cool that he has hit the big time, and has videos on Vh1, and is soundtracking Grey's anatomy and scrubs.

Any others?

Dude, He Is Legend....either I Am Hollywood, or the new one that came out this month It Hates You....I'll gladly send you a copy of both, trust me....after it grows on you, there is no turning back....download "The Pot-Bellied Goddess" and check the lyrics man, it gets good....oh, and I think that one of em isn't even a full on Christian, just "positive"....they were on Solid State Records, which is under Tooth and Nail...the biggest Christian rock label out there......anyway, let me know what you think?!?!......layta, riCo

Hillsong United has a couple live albums that are very, very good. However, they are pretty "in your face" at times.

that's another plus to H.I.L., they're NEVER in your face....once in a while a deep hidden metaphor, but nothing more....In fact, on one song he even says "I don't believe in miracles (times about 10), but I believe in You!!"

Not sure what you're looking for. POD is a Christian band? There's a difference between being Christians that make music and being a Christian band I think. Ben Harper, U2, and Bone Thugs-n-Harmony are all devout and open Christians, but I'd not call any of them Christian groups. If you're making praise music, I'm not listening. Maybe that's close-minded, but so it goes.

I didn't mean that in a bad way. I just wasn't sure what the original poster was expecting or looking for

I'd say he leans more towards one of the cavemen from the Geico commercials.

I realize there are no actual pictures of him, but I'm gonna guess that Jesus didn't have a perm and dyed blonde hair.

There was a band back in the early 90's named Sometimes Sunday. They were really good and talented musicians. In fact their debut album, Stone, was recorded live in the studio. There's no crowd cheering or anything, but instead of tracking their parts individually, they all plugged up and played in the same room, plowing through the whole album in one take, no overdubs or edits. Their sound, like most bands from that time, is very reminicesnt of Ten-era PJ. Unfortunatly after their second album they broke up, but they did leave two great recordings.

Another great Christian artist is named Michael Knott. He also preforms under the band name Lifesavers Underground. He's an incredibly talented musician who has a very independent spirit with his music. Lifesavers Underground is very 80's punk sounding, kind of dark, and very English. Whenever he preforms as himself (as opposed to his one-man band) he plays acoustic-folk music. He's a very varied artist, who has changed his sound a lot during the years ('a'la Neil Young). He's also a really good painter and sells his artwork on his website. I'm not sure of the exact name, but a quick Google search of Michael Knott should bring you to it.
    It's all about the music...

For me the only good christian band is switchfoot, is not preachy or self righteous, i've been to a couple of their gigs (switchfoot is my wife's favorite band) and i can say i enjoyed their act. For me the rest of the bands are just bad cover bands of the "Secular" bands.
