well to be fair, it's not only young men who sing along to Betterman.
and I don't think they sing cause they're missing the message or are glad the woman in the song settles. I know why I sing along - for the joy of singing.
I love hearing an arena full of people singing along to a song, no matter what the lyrics are.
you say women must never settle. this is true. but the same applies to men. equality, eh?
True, no one must ever settle, but when you know, YOU KNOW.
I KNOW I am already with my soul mate. I KNEW he was "THE ONE FOR ME" the moment I laid eyes on him. There was an instant other-worldly connection when we first met. I KNEW. HE KNEW. We FELT it to our spiritual core. We were drawn like magnets. We had to connect. I also had the intuition to realize that he wasn't completely there with me...yet. He only had an inkling that we were meant to be together. He is a very wonderful man, albeit "lost" in the the dark and not able to find me even though I was calling out to him. I stayed with him in that dark room, waiting for him to finally connect with me. I waited for 14 years for him to find me in the dark. I waited, because deep inside, what I knew about us overpowered all my thoughts and my feelings. I HAD to stay. Even when I wanted, and was prepared, to leave him, my intuition told me that was not what I was supposed to do. Finally, he "called" out to me to turn on the light. I did. He is now a whole man on his own. Just as I am a whole woman on my own. As soul mates, we do not complete each other, we balance each other. We have equal value. A shift has to happen to you on your own, for you realize you are whole. Your soul mate is the one who stands beside you while you transform, and does it free of judgement. I stood beside my husband because I KNEW he was about to meet his true self, the one I always knew was there. Just like I had years ago. I had no one to stand beside me, and knew he would need that. I am glad I followed my intuition, not my feelings and my thoughts. We are more true to our own selves than ever before, and it continues to bring us closer every single minute of our lives together.
I understand the song Betterman very well, as the woman who knows the true man is hidden inside. He just doesn't know SHE knows, and can help release his strength. I understand Daughter, because it is how a woman finds the truth in herself, she must do it alone in order to become true and strong.
Oh yeah,
, as for skipping songs, I just listen to the ones I need to feel that day. They all mean something different to me depending on what I feel that day. I never have skipped a song because it didn't speak to me. Sometimes, instead of hearing what I want to, I listen to what that song has to tell me. KWIM? For instance, sometimes I need Inside Job or Love Boat Captain or Rearviewmirror. Completely depends on how I feel.

The only songs that I personally don't like are the "nonsense" songs on Vitalogy. Like Bugs, Hey Foxy, and Aye Davanita. They kinda drive me nuts lol, but those are really the only ones i guess. Oh and maybe Johnny Guitar on Backspacer, im not really sure why I dont like that song much.
Keep Jamming guys
