Mike McCready is far and away the greatest guitar player of his generation. Lets take a quick look at the man who may never get his due as one of the greatest to ever make his guitar talk.

Lets take a look at some Mike photos from through the years.

Yes, I said talk. I say that because to me the great guitar players have always made it seem like there guitars were saying something, not just making noise. Mike's guitar has always done this. Sometimes it's as if it's dueting with Ed. Take a song like Nothing As It Seems. As much as I love Ed's vocals and lyrics, I always want it to get to Mike's guitar. It just puts you in awe. It is chilling and always puts me on the edge of my seat. And live, (whew). One of the main reasons Pearl Jam sounds so incredible live is because of Mike's guitar. It can send a lightning bolt of raw energy right through your entire body and shake your foundation and at the same time send ripples of magic into your heart. Either way you get shivers down your spine. My favorite Mike moment is on Live On Two Legs, his guitar solo at the end of Black. That solo is an assult on your brain. It gets inside you and doesn't ever leave. When Mike goes off on one of those guitar solos, there's no doubt somewhere up in heaven Jimi HendriXXX whips his head around and looks down to see who the hell that is playing those licks.

Now lets have a look at some youtube clips of The Master.

Mike clearly has something special in his soul. His playing is passionate, intement, bizarre and mystical but it's always heartfelt. I could write plenty of spectacular things about the other members aswell, but having both Eddie Vedder and Mike McCready in the same band is like having Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson on the same basketball team. How many titles would they have won? I don't know, but I can tell you this. Pearl Jam has one title, and it's the title of the world's greatest rock band.

Now lets watch and listen to the screams of that 59 strat! (It's worth the download)

I think you lose just a bit of credibility for not even knowing how to spell this name correctly.......c'mon. McCready can play there is little doubt, but as a guitar player, I have more respect for Stone.

Ive been playing guitar for ten years. I originaly picked it up the acoustic and moved on to the electric. There are a ton of guitar players i appreciate and emulate but nobody has showed me what it is like to play with your soul like Mike. As a style he can go anywhere. I tottaly understand what it feels like to look up at the sky with your eyes closed and feel the music flow through you. I think a great recent example of his incredible playing would be his solo on come back. Especialy on the immagine in cornice dvd. Its just f-ing beautiful.

Why is Mike replaceable but not Stone? Why would anybody in Pearl Jam be considered replaceable?

Even Boom? As for the other 5, I guess hard to say Matt isn't but I don't see him going anywhere,I just say him because he is a replacement himself. the 4 main have to always be in it, or it's not Pearl Jam.

    then do it

    Joe Satriani
    Steve Vai
    Yngwie Malmsteen
    Jack White
    John Frusciante
    Adam Jones
    Kerry King
    Kirk Hammet
    Stone Gossard
    Jeff Hanneman
    Tom Morrello
    James Hetfield
    DIMEBAG DARRELL

Thats not even getting into guys you wouldnt have even heard of.

Thats this generation alone..... McCready is great, he shreds, hes fast, hes fun on stage but hes not even in a class with any of those guys, hell he doesnt even carry his own band, like a ton of those guys (Frusciante,White,Morello,Jones) do

Also what generation are we speaking of?? The 90s/00's??

cuz if we go back the list also includes Clapton, Hendrix, Stevie Ray etc.

NOTE - I AM NOT LAUGHING AT STONE ON THAT LIST, BUT ALL THE OTHERS, YES YES YES.

I'll give Stone the title of greatest . *MUSIC* . songwriter of his generation.

I think Mike is great and certainly on an individual level some of the guitarists on EquallyWorthless list are comparable if not better in peoples opinion and some are laughable IMO. However I always think of PJ entirely as the sum of it's parts (Ed, Mike, Stone, & Jeff, I really like Matt but the other 4 have been there the whole time) and Mike just really fits into what PJ does as a band which is what makes him great.

Its funny that you think Mike is better then stone though, you laugh at Stone being on that list after calling mike the greatest guitar player of his era.

I wasn't laughing at Stone on that list. You can try and put words in my mouth but I don't play them games.

I was laughing at your list PERIOD. I don't laugh when anyone puts PJ's members on a greatest list. The dudes on your list are a fuckin joke bud. Except for Stoney.

But you are just looking for a fight, because you quickly just took Stone off your own list when I said he was a great songwriter. Your a joke Bud.

Uh no i dint he is still on there....

and ok man, i wasnt looking for a fight but whatver you say ! a guy who called McCready the greatest guitar player of his generation ios calling me a joke ? Thats rich.

The guys on my list for the most part are all better in their own right than McCready, those guys actually for the most part carry their own bands, Jack White ? have you heard the sounds he gets out his guitar ?? he makes it sound like he has 2 guitar players and a bass player in his band all by himself

Too bad youre too much of a blatant pearl jam homer to even engage in a quality discussion about this generations greatest guitar players without resorting to name calling.

Mike is agreat guitar player but he doesnt carry pearl jam hes like one cog of a larger mechanism that without the other 4 pieces wouldnt fit together.

Now he's back on your list. Wow, your weird.

Mike is agreat guitar player but he doesnt carry pearl jam

If the guys on your list was in a band with Edward Vedder, believe me they would not be carrying the band. Like I said in my 1st post, Ed's like Michael Jordan. You don't carry Michael Jordan and you don't carry Eddie Vedder. Your point has been debunked.
